    D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls - Reddit AMA

Well that's depressing. Anyway, my 2 cents here is that if you live in a city and have a good game shop and a bit of disposable income then you should support it. I'm lucky that I have about 4 within 20 minutes drive of me. Same goes for comic shops etc. but I do buy some stuff from Amazon as well.

D&D 5E (2014) Which parts of D&D came from Tolkien?

Interesting! I've never read Dunsany but I know Tolkien read and respected him and Gygax had him in Appendix N.

    D&D 5E (2014) Best archer build?

I have a war cleric archer (with Sharpshooter) in my game. He's pretty hard out at long range. Unfortunately the lack of multiple attacks and the range of cleric spells is going to to limit it once they get higher level.

    D&D 3.x Putting 3.5e combat back into 5e

I DMed a whole lot of 3.0/3.5/PF D&D over a long period and while I'm really enjoying 5e's increased simplicity I've made a few mistakes in combat, especially around reach and opportunity attacks. My players are all pretty ok with more complex combat and so I've been considering using AoOs and a...

D&D 5E (2014) Are You Excited about Tomb of Annihilation?

I'm intrigued rather than excited. I've never used dinos in D&D but I'm playing with my kids now and I think they'd love it. So if reviews are decent I'll pick it up and run it for my kids later on.

D&D 5E (2014) Why I Am Starting to Prefer 4d6 Drop the Lowest Over the Default Array.

I just looked it up too - basically a fighter than can cast spells. Paladin etc. Anyway - we've always rolled because we always play in the same small group and we can just rule on outside cases (particularly low stats). In 5e I don't think lower stats are nearly as much of a problem (no bonus...

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Guide to Everything -- new mechanical expansion/UA book! -- November 10 with a limited-edition cover by Hydro74

On one hand I like that approach. On the other, how would they make it so revised subclasses etc work with the revised ranger?

I'm excited about the book - more options and the like - and I like the alt cover.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls “…it’s now obvious how to live without Bonus Actions”' And 6th Edition When Players Ask

I liked the Unearthed Arcana book for 3.5e and while it's way to early for that in this game, I would be happy with a big book of possible rules that included getting rid of bonus actions, new initiative etc. But I'm not interested in a 5.5 that makes those part of the rules and I don't think...

Sell me on a good fantasy novel

Thanks! I've read Lynch too... I love that series. I loved The Name of the Wind too but was seriously let down but book 2 and since book 3 appears to be lost forever I don't usually recommend that. I think I'm mostly looking for things from the last 2-3 years or so.

Sell me on a good fantasy novel

I've been struggling to enjoy 'traditional' fantasy for a few years now but perhaps because my D&D game is going well, it's an itch I'd like to scratch again. What's good? I'm probably looking for more recent things here as I have read most older series - I've read GoT, Black Company, Mazalan...
