Call of Cthulhu- which version should I buy?

Either or. D20 tends to have a modern focus, whereas the Chaosium one seems to be 1920's focused mainly. Rules aside, it's not like the natural progressions of D20 are going to interfere with scaring your players. Trust me on this. (Our highest level is 4 and we have played for a fair while...

    Smart Illusion Spells

I absolutely love illusion. But then, I absolutely love any spell that by it's nature must be applied creatively. You can do so much if you are creative; and so little if you use it like a fireball. My games tend to have Evocation as a barred school. It makes everything more interesting.

Whip out your thinkin' caps.... Need ideas! FUN!

Put them strait away in a larp in a True Dungeon situation. They'll fit right in until the blood hits the walls. (Man, that costume rocks! Is that real harness!?) Fun!

    Midnight Crown of Shadow.

Thanks for the post, Armistice! I've already been around the site briefly, but lost it somewhere. On your grading of the adventure, I'd have to agree. I think it might be best if it involved a number of other adventures inside it perhaps, and went a little longer. I'll have to think about...

    Midnight Crown of Shadow.

Picked up Midnight and the Crown of Shadow campaign. I'm very impressed with the style and feel of the game, but Crown of Shadow has for me got it's nose all over the place. (Well, it does try to be all over the world and all. but..) I don't know. I like the adventure, and I like it's feel, sort...

Gaming Nags- how many are there out there?

My gf used to be a non-gamer, but never complained about my roleplaying. Then she got in and was a casual gamer for awhile (Spend more time with me, I suspect.) Now it's hard to get her mind off gaming. Me: Ah. Excellent. Her: Do I get experience for that? Me: Was that roleplaying? I don't...

Types of Armor in the Campaign World

Expense. Traditionally, I read somewhere that armour of any decent weight tends to get more expensive than most people can afford in their lifetimes. Only rich merchants/Nobles could even think of it. Lighter armour is cheaper and easier to make; cured leather with metal bits isn't too hard or...

Someone strips at the table. How do you handle it?

One of the DM's always takes off his shirt, and often several other players do as well. Personally, I'm self concious about my pasty-white moon tan. Edit: The girls tend not to care, and it can get really, really hot where we are. It's not stripping; it's cooling.

    Humor in sourcebooks

Anything could do with a bit of humour. The Core rulebooks especially.

    Firefly RPG I want it!

True, you can get some serious creds. And ships. And guns and things. To my knowledge, there is no armor worn by Serenity's crew. I assume they would be the average, not the exception. I mean, Traveller could run barely legal trader/smugglers that get into fights with ease. But it would be...

    Firefly RPG I want it!

Traveller could do it, but it'd be fairly hard, especially with the lack of money/decent armor that most smugglers would have. All of those characters could be done with the prior history rules though. How cool! Traveller rules kill. Don't forget that. And with no armor and little AC to go...

RPG systems you liked -- much to your surprise

Ars Magica. While complex, I liked the magic a great deal, but the whole setting is what rocks. Godlike. I had no idea, but man that thing can be rough. Makes it fun.

Names of Taverns, Bars, and Inns

The last Cthulu game we played we came into The Seventeen Tentacled Monstrocity and Whistle. It had a symbol; a bunch of tentacles swarming over a plate of wholesome food and dipping into a beer. Admittedly I was playing a drunk, insane scottish teddybear armed with two bazookas. It was a...

    Alchohol During A D&D Game?

Rel: Taking me as a sig is fine. I love to read my own words/listen to myself speak. Thats why I'm DM :D. I have never had a problem with drinking in games, simply because of the fact we are all fairly experienced drinkers. (And Aussies get a + 2 on their fortitude saves verse beer. You...

    Rate your geekness

I gave myself a 2. sloppy - Generally not. I do need to shave twice a day, which means I tend to look patchy after about 12 in the day. Unwashed - Never. obsessive - Quite possibly. I spend my extra money on D+D books and supplements, though I spend more time than I'd like on things like...

    Alchohol During A D&D Game?

Yes, and No. It depends where we are. If we are playing at my house, it's generally acceptable and I don't mind a beer or five. Improves the DMing, lets people get into character without being embarrassed. As we are all friends, and all experienced and mature in such matters it's not a drama...

Moods, themes, and girly stuff like that

What is the preferred mood in your game? Examples; gritty and depressing survivalism, chipper and cheesy optimism. Which particular mood do your players really, really go for? Lately, my group have gone down the darker path; Personal honour/security vs. what is right is the main theme, and...

How did you learn to GM?

It was a hot summers day in 1998ish. A friend had inhereted a bunch of D+D books. We talked about it. I defeated Bargle. We talked about it. We talked about it. I bought "The Adventure Begins Here!" and we never looked back. He GM'd to start with; I saw what I liked and what I didn't like...

What Movie Has Inspired the Most PC's in Your Game?

Quotes from movies that express my players sentiments? "He did not care anymore... life and death... the same!" - "Conan! What is good in life?" (Conan the Barbarian) - - - "Conan! There's six people against her!" "One, two, three... I think you're right!" (Conan the Destroyer, terrible...
