Experts on other systems, why aren't they d&d?

A continuation of this interesting aside - When I worked for AirCanada (before the layoffs), I found out that an airplane that has had a certain percentage replaced in parts (something like 60% or so, can't remember exactly), had to be given a new name, because it was considered "no longer the...

Weather -- when does fog appear?

Fog happens when there's any form of moisture (airborn or water sources) and a rapid temperature change (either warming up or cooling down). So you can pretty much call up a mist or fog or whatever whenever you feel like by simply saying "the temperature raised <lowered> quickly overnight"...

    prestigue class conversion

As my friend pointed out (who is actually playing a Monk right now), the Pathfinder Wholeness of Body is not twice level, but just 1x monk level of hitpoints for 2 Ki points. Still more healing capability if you want to spend the points, but yeah... definitely only 1x Monk level.

    prestigue class conversion

Yeah, I realized partway through posting that Pathfinder doesn't need it anymore either, but forgot to rewrite the "unless you needed it before" part. Regarding the ability.. not much has changed between 3.5e and Pathfinder regarding this ability. You have fairly similar hitpoints for your...

    The iPhone Will Kill D&D

Why do people still go for walks? We have many better ways of transportation, gets us places quicker, that still gives us excercise, etc.. while even keeping the same scenic view if we want. Walking has been around since we stood upright, and yet it's still here even after all this...

    prestigue class conversion

I haven't done any conversions specifically, but here's how I'd look at it: PrC prerequisite changes: - Just the skills (drop ranks required by 3 each). The rest don't break any Pathfinder conventions and are still appropriate. Class changes: - HD already matches the Pathfinder convention...

    Why Calculated XP is Important

Ah, Schrodinger's cat. Put a cat in a box with poison released randomly (reasons of quantum uncertainty)... and then close the box so it's unobserved. Since the time at which the cat dies is unknown (random, and unobserved), it can be said that the cat is in a state of both death, and not death...

A CR 2 Triton can summon a CR 3 Water Elemental?

I do recall a post or rant/rave or something by Monte Cook that mentioned they didn't create the monsters in the MM "in a vacuum". Dragon CRs being a perfect example... they are designed with the idea that players wouldn't be running into them as a random encounter, and will likely be prepared...

Watchmen Inspired Campaign -- needs your help for setting and rules ideas!

Depending on your take with Cybernetics, it doesn't even have to be a Device container. If the cybernetics are simply implants that can't be removed or stolen, it's just "augmented human" stuff... use Super Strength or Speed or whatever, and give it a Cybernetics descriptor (maybe it's affected...

Watchmen Inspired Campaign -- needs your help for setting and rules ideas!

M&M will pretty much cover all your bases. The ruleset is designed to allow you to create whatever you want really. You build your character with the same basic building blocks that d20 uses (skills, feats, BAB, etc). Powers are kind of like class abilities, but they can be explained by...

    Iterative Attacks

I was thinking of a way of making combat more dynamic with multiple attacks for an E6 game, and there's a mechanic I was thinking of doing. Each person can do three actions per round: 1 Swift action (or Immediate action if done out of turn) 1 Move action (for movement or a move equivalent...

    Pathfinder vs. 3.5?

However, they don't get it by virtue of being a fighter, so the fighter class (aka "Fighters") do not get a feat every level. The character playing a fighter gets a feat every level. The important distinction is that if you say the Fighter class gets a feat every level, it sounds like a...

    Fighter - additional abilities

When Jason Bulmahn has something for playtesting, he'll usually put it up in the Announcements section. Rarely, I've seen him put up a "Design Focus" titled thread with some ideas on a change he hasn't really fully fleshed out yet (Animal Companions update was one like this). The thread I was...

    Fighter - additional abilities

If you check out the new feats that Jason posted in the Pathfinder forums, there's some very nice critical-based, and combat maneuver based feats. I statted up a 20th Fighter using Two Weapon Fighting. Upwards to 400 damage per full attack, on average. What's the average Meteor Swarm do? Hell...

    CMB for tying people up?

It's also possible that the Escape Artist entry is out of date. It mentions under DCs: "Grappler Grappler's check result" This is technically incorrect, considering it should be against the 10+CMB according to the Grapple entry. So the skill entry could definitely use an update.

    CMB for tying people up?

I think it's possible they are supposed to be two different situations. The Ropes/Bindings entry in the Escape Artist skill section is listed alongside "manacles", which only really bind your hands (unless it's wrapped around something, chaining you someplace). So it's likely that the Escape...

    CMB for tying people up?

I'm not sure if you guys are looking at the latest rules... In the latest Beta rules, it says that if you have your opponent pinned, you can use rope to tie them up, at a +5 bonus to the DC (so default 20 + CMB). If you try to tie them up while they aren't pinned, it requires a check at -10...

    Proposed fix for spellcaster multiclassing

Since Bards are said to be somewhat weak... wouldn't it be a good idea to take this opportunity to boost the Bard's ability and give it 3/4 casting? That way you can have the same as BAB (+10, +15 and +20)... keeps the math cleaner too. Or... you could just say that the Bard is a half caster...

    Cheating cheaters

Honestly... with the how often one of my friend's rolls can get (and it doesn't matter who's dice he uses), I'd almost wish he'd cheat. I'm not even joking... if he literally cheated on every 3rd roll or so, he *might* amount to the average gamer's luck. We've started advising him on his...

    Reshuffling Skills ...

Talking to three different people, about three different instances of Language in a thread about multiple subjects.. yeah, things get confusing. Sorry. To put it simply, I dislike the old way, and dislike more the new Linguistics. Basically, my stance on Languages in the game is that it...
