    i didn't write FR: Anauroch

Due to somekind of error, my name appears on the cover of the new FR book Anauroch: Empire of Shade. The name that should be there instead of mine (and is listed correctly in the credits) is Skip Williams. I had nothing to do with the book. If you like the book, great, but I didn't have...

    The New Argonauts, for free!

I announced on September 29 that I'd make the The New Argonauts PDF available for free on November 1st. It's now November 1st, the PDF is now free, so go get it!

    The New Argonauts for free!

Haven't written it yet. :p Life has been kinda sucky for the last year and I haven't gotten as much writing done as I intended.

    The New Argonauts for free!

Well I submitted this as a news item on Tuesday, but as there haven't been any updates since then I'll say it here. Short form: Sales of The New Argonauts have slowed to a trickle (the book is almost two years old). Accounting for these little amounts (especially as I pay a royalty to my editor...

    Curse of the Moon

Banshee16: {Does the book give information on how to have non-evil werewolves, for instance? Heroes of Valour has a good aligned werewolf in it...but no rules on how that would work for a PC.} Yep, it talks about the "default" lycan alignments in the MM, points out how those are based on...

    Curse of the Moon

Right before the database crash I released Curse of the Moon. I thought I'd re-mention that because the original mention is lost in the crash, and ask if anyone had any comments or questions about it.

Charles Ryan (and others) out at WotC?

Steve's $30million estimate is much closer to the mark.

What if. . .WotC never bought TSR?

And considering the general state of the economy, that means RPGs are doing pretty well. And considering all the cries for the last ten years that the RPG industry is failing (Magic, Everquest, the d20 bubble, etc.), that means RPGs are doing pretty well (in that they're not failing like...

Which non-core monsters should have been core?

Yeah, and that's because it was contested between the Core team and the FR team. The Core team wasn't going to do a monster book for at least a year, the FR team needed to publish official updates of key FR creatures. ::shrug:: What can ya do?

Which non-core monsters should have been core?

Yes, but nobody is claiming drow are exclusive to FR ... drow are in the 3E MM, after all. Let's try this again: Originally Posted by BWP: And I said: Some people here are suggesting that FR "stole" monsters from the core, pointing out that these "stolen" monsters were in the 2E MM but now...

What if. . .WotC never bought TSR?

Define "rest of the hobby." If there are 100,000 RPG sales every month, I'd say the hobby is doing pretty well. If 95,000 of those are WotC books and the other 5,000 are split among the d20 publishers, that may suck for those publishers (and I'm one of them) but that doesn't mean the hobby isn't...

Charles Ryan (and others) out at WotC?

I have to admit that you were at TSR several years more than I was, so you got to see more of the good stuff than I did (things were good at TSR for about a year after I was hired before they started having noticeable problems). Also, as I was "the online guy" I was still kinda on the outside...

Charles Ryan (and others) out at WotC?

Yep. Just a few months later was the infamous "problem with the printers" debacle (the problem being "we can't pay the printers, and they have a problem with that"). They did have a big hiring boost mid-'95 (myself, Miranda Horner, Keith Strohm, Bruce Cordell, Cindi Rice, and several others...

Which non-core monsters should have been core?

Quite sure. What I said was "Many of the creatures in the 2E MM first appeared in FR products." I wasn't talking about Monsters of Faerun, I was talking about the 2e Monstrous Manual. I also did not mention the bullywug or peryton, I'm not sure why you are. (Bullywug = 1e FF, Peryton = 1e...

What if. . .WotC never bought TSR?

Oh, please, give me a break. Considering that Lorraine was shopping the company around, including directly to Hasbro, that is almost certain. That and a large shipment of returns (RH's agreement meant they could send back unsold books for a refund) meant TSR had no money -- they didn't have...

Which non-core monsters should have been core?

Uh, such as? Many of the creatures in the 2E MM first appeared in FR products: the dracolich, the beholder variants, etc. Nowadays most people think FR "stole" those creatures, but they originated in FR.

Charles Ryan (and others) out at WotC?

I guess you didn't hear how TSR laid off a bunch of people in December 1996, just a couple of weeks before Xmas. That was great fun. The same day they had the "holiday party," which was taking the remaining employees out to lunch. "Your bonus this year is that you get to keep your job." :/ In...
