    [IC] Eberron: The Plumbers

Liutbrand listens to Alara, nodding in agreement with her words. He certainly didn't expect the old man to break composure like that. Liutbrand grew up in house Torrn d'Tharashk, and was used to be surrounded by stone-faced, strict older kinsmen and kinswomen. Discipline was always rigid, and...

    [IC] Eberron: The Plumbers

Liutbrand almost fired back an instant sarcastic reply at the d'Orien curmudgeon. He held back with a slight smile, and let one of his more... diplomatic companions do the talking.

    [IC] Eberron: The Plumbers

Liutbrand sighs, not entirely satisfied with the current situation. "I have a bad feeling about this, but paying a visit to d'Orien is probably our best bet".

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger Halfling

I remember pteranodon being an excellent choice for small sized beast masters.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Spirits Bard and Undeath Warlock

They don't really have to them all altogether. They can easily start with the weakest subclasses, and work their way up at a slow pace. By the way, you're right, I completely forgot about the beast master variant. Good news, Wotc, just keep doing that!

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Spirits Bard and Undeath Warlock

Yeah, I feel the same way. Amazing start, and then stagnation. I understand why they're doing that, I just don't think it's the best way to handle this. Class variants are probably going to be a thing sooner or later, aye? Why not include subclass variants? Alternate features for existing...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Spirits Bard and Undeath Warlock

Oh yeah, I remember as well. So many great ideas back then, only a few survived. Modularity became an afterthought, just a smattering of variants buried in the DMG. What a waste.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Spirits Bard and Undeath Warlock

Yeah, that's true. I remember them errataing a slew of spells and powers from the PHB, bringing them up to speed. Unfortunately the edition was discontinued, I would've loved to see them tackling the PHB 2 and 3, also. The Class Variants UA is my greatest (maybe only) hope for this edition.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Spirits Bard and Undeath Warlock

You know, if they really did realize that, I think they should've just revamped the undying warlock. Those of us that bought SCAG will now officially own a crappy subclass that is completely made obsolete, both mechanically and conceptually, by something that came out in a new book. It's...

    D&D 3.x Are You Still Playing D&D 3.0?

I only play 3.0 when I occasionally replay Neverwinter Nights. On a similar note, I only play 3.5 when I play NWN 2. Great games, and the worst flaws of third edition really don’t matter much in single player videogames.

Mana, Shamans, and the Cultural Misappropriation behind Fantasy Terms

I suggest we all stop derailing this thread. I, for one, will stop responding to posts about Lovecraft. @Hussar consider opening your own thread.

Mana, Shamans, and the Cultural Misappropriation behind Fantasy Terms

I think you just won the Godwin award for this thread. Anyway, fallacy aside, your comparison doesn't make much sense. Mr adolf wasn't much of a writer, especially compared to an actual genius like Lovecraft. Was he a troubled man with some horrible views? Yep. Still a genius though.

Mana, Shamans, and the Cultural Misappropriation behind Fantasy Terms

That would absolutely work for a lizardfolk party. For a human/dwarven/elven party? Probably not so much. Unless those characters hailed from a culture in which cannibalism is ok, of course. Good aligned cannibal: only eats enemies who died in battle. Neutral aligned cannibal: can eat enemy...

Mana, Shamans, and the Cultural Misappropriation behind Fantasy Terms

Also, I think that the evil label in that bit you quoted should be flat out removed. The shaman title in the MM is used for lizardfolk, stone giants and quaggoths, none of which are evil.

Mana, Shamans, and the Cultural Misappropriation behind Fantasy Terms

All right. I just wanted to understand if you were talking about dedicated game mechanics or the whole concept in general. That clears it up for me.

Mana, Shamans, and the Cultural Misappropriation behind Fantasy Terms

Don't strawman me, please. I said "I certainly wouldn't want a Dark Sun book to give us detailed rules for slave trading, specifically, but I wouldn't want the book to just pretend slavery doesn't exist in the setting, either". Respond to this, not to a made up position. To rephrase what I...

Mana, Shamans, and the Cultural Misappropriation behind Fantasy Terms

Now wait a sec. I certainly wouldn't want a Dark Sun book to give us detailed rules for slave trading, specifically, but I wouldn't want the book to just pretend slavery doesn't exist in the setting, either. It's an evil thing evil villains do, and if the PCs are also evil, they might also...

    [IC] Eberron: The Plumbers

"Yeah, good, I'm sure you'll do fine. I'll be watching from the sidelines, see if I catch any hint of lying or misdirection on their part." Liutbrand said, still busy organizing his new equipment "as soon as I'm done here, that is".

D&D General How do you explain PC absences when a player has to miss a session?

If a player is missing a session, its character will be played by one of the other players in combat. If it is necessary for the character to speak, the DM will handle it. The Dm already handles hundred of Npcs after all, one more character doesn’t make much of a difference.
