D&D General Miniatures shouldn't be edition-dependent (a Fire Giant size rant)

Bad analogy. It is very difficult to amend a government constitution for a reason. Something like Congress plus 3/5ths of the state legislatures must ratify an amendment. I bet Jefferson himself would have warned that prudence would dictate that canon long established should not be changed...

D&D General When Players Refuse to learn The Rules

I'm still doing it occasionally after almost 2 years. Same for the rest of the people I play with. Like I said, bad design. You're immersed in the RP and suddenly the DM calls for a roll. So you scramble to find the right link. It happens. At least the VTT does all the math for you so...

D&D General When Players Refuse to learn The Rules

To be fair, the character sheet on Roll20 could be designed a lot better such as highlighting the attack links so you're not accidentally clicking on the weapon in your equipment list which is right below the attack links.

Coming Hypostasis, a game of Abrahamic Horror, Survival and the Inevitable Passage of Time

I think there is a bias with me and probably a lot of people to think New Testament whenever the Bible is mentioned. I think most nominal christians and secular people jump to the same conclusion. Abrahamic Horror might be confusing. Google didn't bring up anything for me. But if you...

Coming Hypostasis, a game of Abrahamic Horror, Survival and the Inevitable Passage of Time

The art on your home page, especially the second portrait, is worth a click through if nothing else! A post-Book of Revelation game might be interesting, but I think anyone that nominally identifies as Christian might be turned off by the presentation on your home page. What is BRP...

    D&D 5E (2014) Minor Illusion question

I'm necroing this thread because this situation came up and I went looking for an answer. Our party of three was resting overnight in a seemingly safe spot off the Triboar Trail with a small campfire. The party was ambushed in the middle of the night by a group of seven goblins. They got a...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Let's Read] Brancalonia: Spaghetti Fantasy Setting

The only difference I see is that every shopkeeper and slack jawed guard in Faerun acts like the soup nazi towards the party instead of showing any respect. It's like the Sons of Anarchy walking into a Walmart and being asked by the greeter, " Whut da eff do you effing bastiges wont, ya fooking...

D&D 5E (2014) Any good alternatives to "How do you want to do this"?

It certainly speeds up combat when you skip it. But now I miss it when a DM skips it. There is a middle ground though. Instead of saying "that's a hit" or that's a miss," try "your sword lashes into him" or "he deftly parries your blade."

D&D 5E (2014) Any good alternatives to "How do you want to do this"?

I think Sly Flourish said he asks the player to describe something unique about the enemy before he (Sly) narrates the death blow. Some players just aren't good at narrating the death blows and may not even like doing it. It might be something to clarify at session zero.

D&D General Modrons should be terrifying

I think modrons should be roleplayed like V.I.N.C.E.N.T. from the movie The Black Hole. Sure, they looks ridiculous, but they can be cunning and ruthless as well. And they have one liners that will give a bard a run for his money.

DDAL Things I learn from being a DM for 300 Adventure League sessions.

I have often read that there is little to no role playing in Adventures League. From my experience in about 30 or so AL games that has been true. Has that changed at all with shows like Critical Role? Are there more people showing up wanting to roleplay?

D&D 5E (2014) Give all familiars the nimble escape ability?

The owl is the most popular familiar in 5e due to its flyby ability. In order to increase the diversity of familiars chosen, give all familiars the nimble escape ability similar to the one found on goblins: Nimble Escape: The familiar can take the Disengage or Hide action as a bonus action on...

    D&D 5E (2014) Using COMMAND to break a caster's concentration?

That's because he isn't a wizard that can use magic to do in an instant what would take a mundane hypnotist minutes if not hours. Also look up rapid induction hypnosis which claims that hypnosis can be achieved in minutes or seconds without even resorting to magic.

    D&D 5E (2014) Using COMMAND to break a caster's concentration?

Heck, I do my best thinking on the toilet. I think the caster should get a spell buff if told to drop trou. I think a good compromise is that the spell's effect temporarily ends on the caster's turn while it takes a potty break (or whatever) and resumes at the start of it's next turn if it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Using COMMAND to break a caster's concentration?

I searched for a post on this topic because of an excellent video by the YouTuber Pack Tactics. I will link to his video below, but before that I wanted to link to one of the hundreds of videos on YouTube showing people going to sleep on command.

D&D General Professional DMs making $45k/year off it?

$15/session is the going rate. There is a business that operates on Roll20 that I believe provides all the campaign materials to a DM and splits the $15 fee with about $12 to the DM and $3 going to the service. I can't vouch for the service, but it would be a way to get into paid DMing without...
