    What RPGs genres are lacking?

Agreed on the lack of mostly-historic Westerns. There are several on DTRPG that I've not looked at: Cowboy World (PBTA, has a chapter on "Going Weird" Colts & Crooks (the description section is a poem...) Sidewinder (setting book for Savage Worlds) Rider (I suspect it's a Traveller/Cepheus...

Which game books most inspire the "sense of wonder" in you?

Products: Free League's Coriolis - both The Third Horizon and The Great Dark. C:T3H being a very evocative setting description and excellent fluff. TGD is more evocative than descriptive, but is a darker take, too. The beta art is incredible. Free League's Alien - the mint green on black may be...

Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

If some element is not to the group's enjoyment, yes, dropping it in future is the correct thing to do. Anything else with that group is being an ass. If that thing is key to your enjoyment of that game (setting or rules), then it's time to either find a different group or to play something...

What makes a TTRPG purchase "worth it" to you?

I havel all 4, and Dungeons is the only one I've used in this century.

What makes a TTRPG purchase "worth it" to you?

Sadly, Jennell (née Paul) Jaquays passed away last year. Actual titles: Central Casting: Heroes Now, Central Casting: Heroes of Tomorrow, Central Casting: Heroes of Legend. And there was a 4th, Central Casting: Dungeons. All 4 written pre-transition.

What makes a TTRPG purchase "worth it" to you?

I use $2/hour/person for video, board, and card games. I assume about $3/hour/person for RPGs since COVID. So, a $25 book is "worth it" if I get 8 hours of enjoyment from it without play... if I get play with 2 others, that $25 only needs 2 hours of fun to be worth it.

    What RPGs genres are lacking?

Cosmic Patrol is also retro-space, and about 12 years old now, but it's got rotating GMing and is on the storygame side. It presumes eventual success baring death. And the adventures are technically pretty railroady. That said, it can be used more traditionally if desired. There actually are...

Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

It is always safer to ask than to assume. I've had cases where I did something that I thought was fun, but they were not enjoying it. If I hadn't asked, no one would have mentioned it, because it was a small part of the game....

Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

The orientations in re abuse are not normally in the rulebook, but are separately presented by the various leagues. USA Hockey has an official reporting system for reporting physical/sexual/mental abuse by officials, and a different reporting system for officials making bad calls. I've heard...

Is There Possibility of a PF1.5 or a 3.5 Revival? Whether Directly or Something With Similar 'Ethos'

Saga is very much the public alpha of 4e mechanics... and the connective tissue showing a continuity of 3e to 4e, via 3.x to SWD20 to SWSE to 4E.

Combating My Own Boredom as a Player

I've found that, if the GM's not bad, i can cope. If they're bad, I just bow out, because I won't sit there and take it when they're breaking the math or intentionally unfair, or worse. I had a good time at the con in the one session I was a player in; the GM was prepped, but it was clearly a...

    Choosing a new campaign

My sunday group is getting restless and we're about to hit session 16 (over a 20 week span), and this is a rather long playing campaign... I figure the current plot will take another 3-4 sessions. So I'm on cruise for running Fallout starting late april/early may. for the sheets, I've got most...

    Choosing a new campaign

I'm always in that position. I've 2-5 I'm prepping for at any given point. I pick the closest to ready 3, and put them forward, usually 2-3 weeks before. the week before is usually some session 0.

For those doing TTRPG online, what are your reasons?

I'm 10m from the wifi, which is 1m from the router, which is 50m from the fiber-to-DSL neighborhood router, the Fiber to DLS shared with exactly 2 other homes. One of my players, however, has constant problems with internet reliability – not speed, per se, as he gets good VOIP stream – but that...
