    Help with latin

So, the baron of Desert's Edge has delusions of grandeur, and had declared himself ruler of the Great and Resurgent Empire of Nerath. He'll be renaming the town "City of the New Throne", but he's just the sort of pompous idiot who'd use an archaic language. So help me out. How do you say...

    OGL Cloning 4e?

A fool's errand I think. It's entirely possible that you might comb through enough OGL sources to create a game that plays almost exactly like 4e. But the terminology used will be entirely different at best. Products released under such a system will be confusing and difficult to use with the...

    Page XX?

There's also at least one Page XX error in Into the Shadowhaunt. I imagine such an error is even more embarrassing when it shows up in your 12 page promo material. Fortunately, it seems like all such errors are for the GM's eyes only. The players will never have to know.

    Who wrote 4e?

Judging from the preview books, different people were actually in charge of the whole shebang at different times.

    4e D&D GSL Live

No Mordenkainen, No Tenser, No Beholders, No Yuan-ti. And no Succubi? Seriously? I'd hoped that this sort of silliness would end. It doesn't do any favors for WotC--It encourages 3rd party books to diverge more from WotC's assumed world--And that probably draws customers away from WotC's...

Could somebody please explain to me how you sell a PDF without any website at all?

The exact same sentence appeared in the d20 stl, and it didn't stop anyone from creating new classes for 3e. It's meant to prevent 3rd parties from printing things like "how to create a character" chapter and experience charts, not from printing actual classes.

Ever quit a gaming group because of another player?

AFGNCAAP, I don't fault you for quitting. The guy sounds like a real jerk, and If I had to deal with players that annoying, I'd do the same thing. But that doesn't really forgive your intentionally sporadic attendance. Skipping out on the game based on whether or not the problem player will...

Who Did Not Like 3rd Edition Because of Too Many Fixes/Tweeks/Changes Needed to Play

I won't go so far as to say that I thought 3e was broken. But I did think it was very, very bent. As a GM, the prep time involved was really annoying. And even when I did do the prep, In addition, assumptions about how many encounters per day, combined with a failure to demarcate per...

    I got BUSTED!

Yay for adventure spoilers. I actually had to read the part of Shadowfell that has the riddle in it--I was running an excerpt at a Con. But I was careful to skip over the riddle and the answer, just in case they didn't find it, and I got to play the adventure later.

Making a simple character in 4E

Simple to make, or simple to play? It seems counterintuitive, but I feel like the wizard is the easiest to play, at least at 1st level. The wizards (the pre-gen ones at least) are simple exercises in "point and go boom", while the defenders, strikers, and controllers need to pay a lot more...

How do the D&D design team play D&D?

Some clues can be gathered from the PvP/Penny Arcade podcast. It's pretty clear that Chris Perkins isn't a stickler for rules (for example, Binwin ought to have taken damage from Jim Darkmagic's Scorching Burst spell in the first episode).

    D&D 4E hex rules for 4E?

A room with no half-hexes. And lots of fun angles.

Dark Sun 4th ed...halfGiants, run as ogres?

What about: +4 Str, +4 Con, -2 Int, -2 wis, -2 cha Large Size (including reach 2, but not threatening reach) Malleable Mindset: May retrain up to two options at each level, rather than just one. That basically covers everything that the half-giant got in 2e (though not always in the same way...

    Multiclassing woes

Have you considered forgoing the Warlock Paragon Paths, and instead using your paragon path to pick up more warlock powers? Or is that a poor tradeoff?

A little trick I learned last night.

Not sure it's worth it, unless you've got Powerful Charge or other effects that are charge related. The +1 attack you get from charging just isn't powerful enough to compete with your at-wills most of the time. The real benefit of charge is the ability to move twice your speed and still...

    Why the focus on criticals?

The problem with this mechanic is that it's the player's choice whether to use it. With extra crit effects, it's more random. And given some of the crit bonuses I've seen, I'd be scared as a DM to let my players have abilities that are that good.

    delevel correctly?

if you're running the White Dragon from the DDM card, I suggest you make other tweaks as well. When I ran it as-is against the DDXP pregens, it was a horrible fight--the PCs and the Dragon kept missing eachother, and the combat dragged on forever. I suggest you boost the attacks by 2, and...

    The Best Warlock Pact

I don't think I can answer that question w/out having seen the Fey Pact paragon path. The other two are so awesome, I can't even imagine what the fey pact path will be like.

    What SHOULD FLGS do?

It's not just about 'space to play'. It has to be about 'opportunity to play'. Stuff like in-store tables and looking-for-game bulletin boards are a necessity. But if you want to stand out, then be more proactive. Personally organize and advertise game events, rather than just letting folks...
