    Expertise + Power Attack

FWIW, I emailed the Sage. I don't expect a response, because I never get one. I have a feeling that he would side with it as written--you can go as far into the negatives as possible using two, three, or twenty feats that reference BAB in this way. Anything else would be introducing a new...

    Max skill rank

PHB pg. 56 (upper left under Skills) for an example.

    Sneak Attacks on Rays

Is that why? I thought it was about egos. :D

    Expertise + Power Attack

Extremely useful for fighting creatures that require a 20 to hit. (They do occur... :)) Just load up to the maximum minus to hit and swing away. A 5% chance is a 5% chance regardless of how negative you go.

    Expertise + Power Attack

Yeah, I was trying to be careful in not suggesting you lowered your BAB. I failed. :)

    Expertise + Power Attack

I guess then your BAB isn't a pool that all feats pull from when assigning bonuses. One might argue (my friend, in fact) that it is a pool, and you can't assign more bonuses per round (total from all feats) than BAB you have. He swears he's read it somewhere, but I skimmed through the PHB just...

Does Expertise Stack with Fighting Defensively?

Thanks everyone. I never even started the download. :D

    Expertise + Power Attack

If I was a Ftr6 with a +6/+1, I could use Expertise to gain a +5 AC, but attack with a +1/-4 as a full attack action. Could I use Expertise (+5) and Power Attack (+6) for an +5 AC and a -5/-10 attack roll as a full attack action. /ds

:) Let the reference search begin! I'll go search the FAQ.

Does Expertise Stack with Fighting Defensively?

I appreciate your reply, Crothian, but could you give more of a reason as to why this is possible? To me, it seems as if the "Normal" section is saying that you are limited in your bonus/penalty (-4 attack +2 AC) unless you take Expertise, which gives you the flexibility of a 1:1 ratio at your...

Does Expertise Stack with Fighting Defensively?

Does expertise stack with fighting defensively? In another thread, I noticed it being used together. However, I'm not sure that is correct. Under the "Normal" section of Expertise, it states: With a Tumble (5 ranks), this becomes -4 attack +3 AC. It isn't clear Expertise is worth it if you...

    See Invisibility

True seeing states that it allows you to "see through an illusion." That obviously means the illusion becomes opaque? Right!? :D

Do some classes "need" magic items?

I think if I ran a no-magic world (Egads! I love magic!), Wizard as a class would not be allowed. Only those "mutants" that have innate abilities would have magic. And even then, that magic could not be transferred to scrolls. /ds

[Magic Item] Thumb Ring of Might

Interesting. Is it because you give them information about what is coming up? Do they use divination spells so they can prepare? Are the typically prepared for the encounter? Or do they just wing it and make it out? /ds

Do you get two attacks if you ready against a spellcaster?

How so? Taking a readied action gives up your normal action for that round potentially doing less by the action not being triggered. It seems like the character is taking a risk for a better reward. If the wizard is stupid enough to not realize the "ogre with the steely gaze hovering over...

[Unarmed Attacks] Have we been living a lie?

Hrm. I guess I don't know the issuess. I'll watch out for it. Ahh, yes. I have caught these from time-to-time and had questions myself. I didn't know they were heralded as one of the worst parts of the 3e ruleset. Heh. My best advice on mounted combat is to remember that 3e has no facing...

No. For purposes of DR, the arrow is all that counts.

    Sneak Attacks on Rays

How do you reconcile that with interrupting casting? You can't divine when the spellcaster is going start casting. He actually has to be casting. In this case, it would be a delay action (as per what you just said about this example). The spell would already be cast by time you act. /ds
