at this point it's really just a daydream, Andrew, something to brainstorm about while doing the dishes. but your interest, and Tsadkiel's, is gratifying. perhaps i'll try to work up some notes and post 'em in the plots forum.

    Flumphs got the shaft!

while i'm tempted to say that you'll just have to wait till Tome of Horrors comes out, i cannot resist the thrill of introducing you to your very first flumph. pointless? perhaps. but oh so cuddly.

    LOTR RPG Update

don't have the book, but thumbed through it at GenCon. i found myself rather put off that it was illustrated exclusively with stills from the film. while i loved Fellowship..., i couldn't help thinking of Burger King cups seeing one image from the movie after another. maybe it's just me, but...

thanks for the tip about the Second World Setting, Tsadkiel. just checked out the site and it looks like it has potential. folks who mentioned the Guardians of the Flame series earlier in this thread may find this one interesting as well. BTW, Tsadkiel, is your interest in Appalachia tied...

    Flumphs got the shaft!

you'll always be my favorite monster, Boz! can't belieeeve this didn't make the cut for Tome of Horrors. for which i congratulate you wholeheartedly. looking over the 'pheg, i'm thinking, sure do like the idea of a wizard who can't be flanked. maybe a conjurer, taking the alienist PrC from...

Which monster books do you have or are you getting?

you forgot Where the Wild Things Are! Maurice Sendak wrote the first monster book i ever owned. you have to homebrew the stats, but if you're lucky, your dinner will still be warm when you're finished.:) i too am a sucker for monster books, so chalk me down for Tome of Horrors, Monster...

Re: A few more things... hate to break it to you, Mallus, but there is a strong element of autobiography in much of Vollmann's writing, "tourism" not excepted. one of his books has the epigraph "the prettiest thing is the darkest darkness," and this fascination with humanity at it most...

    Flumphs got the shaft!

the tirapheg got stumped! speaking of seriously silly critters, anyone remember this 1e Fiend Folio beastie? eyes in a featureless face, two arms ending in spikes, a clawed arm growing from its chest, a wide mouth yawning from its belly, two humanoid legs and a pegleg between...it could run a...

naked rainbows? gravity's lunch? blessed dementia preserve us! Pynchon and Burroughs as campaign sources? wonderful, and slightly...askew:D if we're headed that far off the beaten track, how about William Vollmann's You Bright & Risen Angels? not fantasy or SF, but might have the kernel...

right, and many of it's legendary heroes, villains and critters were in the 1e Deities & Demigods. while i'm not familiar with the 2e version, it seems like it's not very well thought of. i guess i'm wishing to see it done right.

i knew i'd forgotten something. the bazaar plane visited from time to time in these books would be a great setting for an anything goes, "always wanted to play an otyugh monk" campaign.

    calls to prayer...

the first DM i ever had was a priest, for a single night of D&D at the rectory with my dad and i. sadly, he was not the epitome of Christian agape as far as my PC was concerned. he took one look at my halfling archer, who i'd equipped only with leather armor because i figured platemail would...

i thought i'd share a few favorite literary worlds that i'd love to see adapted to gaming. i'm curious whether any on the boards know whether any of these have been adapted as official or homebrew campaign settings. if there are other literary worlds you'd like to see or have already drawn on...
