    Arkham Horror

I got the new version cheap at a convention. So far I have only played it solo, but it has been great! I have not won a game yet but I don't feel like I will never be able to. Even just playing solo I think I have spent my money well.

Are there any D&D modules created soley for the sake of comedy?

I remember a line of adventures in Polyhedron called "Fluffy". They all revolved around a dog. I only ran one of then, a Christmas one since it was that time of year. It had Dark Elves casting Magic Mistletoe and a female storm giant named Aunti Claws (or something). I ran it on a lark...

Vote: The Best OD&D and B/ED&D Adventures!

You know, I have this as well and as much as I think it is great, i KNOW that my players would blanch at the alien bad guys and the equipment they use.

Vote: The Best OD&D and B/ED&D Adventures!

Night’s Dark Terror is fantastic. Everything about is just great. Red Arrow, Black Shield was the basis for one of the best campaigns I ever ran. We didn’t use the Battle System rules, but everything else from that game remained intact. I still have the map and the module, but the army...

    Player, or DM?

I have got to be the DM. I enjoy the leveling aspect of playing but I can only do it for so long. Every game I have ever been a player in inevitable ends up with me sitting there thinking how I could run this game so much better. I would love to be a player in my own game. I know that is a...

How did you arrive at D&D?

I remember it well. I was reading my Marvel comics when the advertisement for the D&D Basic set was on the back cover. I read those ads for months. It was 1986 and I was twelve. I begged my mom to get it for me and she did. I have never looked back.

Do you warn your PCs before they do something stupid?

It has nothing to do with PC. It has everything to do with being impartial running a game. I have no problem hanging out afterward and telling my players what I think they did that was stupid. But when we are playing the game it is up to the players to run their characters without my intrusions.

Do you warn your PCs before they do something stupid?

I find that if players do something stupid there is a general disconnect between their perception of the game reality and the reality of the game world I have created. Most time players don’t do stupid things because they have not thought things out, rather, they do stupid things because they...

    Some questions about mounted combat

Well I'm going to have to say that the short spear tossing druid I mentioned has a certain charm he has the mobility to get around all while being free to "reload" another spear. Now only if the spear could be used like a lance...

    Some questions about mounted combat

I have a hafling druid in my game and he rides a war dog into combat. My question concerns AC and attack priority. When medium creatures are attacking with melee weapons: Can they target either the rider or the mount? If the rider is attacked does he get dex bonus to AC? Would he get the...

Has anyone ever played "themself" in a game of any sort?

The first real campaign that I ran was a Marvel game. About 80% of the players made idealized versions of themselves. Later on, a buddy of mine tried to run a GURPS game where we all made versions of ourselves in the most realistic way possible. It turned out to be a horror/illuminati hybrid...

    I thought I was a good DM...

Sometimes, the best players need a little hand holding or gentle nudging to keep the game moving. The illusion of free will/reign in a campaign should be just that, an illusion. Ultimately, you really don’t want the players to do whatever they want. You want the players to follow one of the...

    Transformers or G.I. Joe?

Transformers. I own every comic from the 80's. My first TF toy was Sunstreak. Sunday mornings were better than Saturday mornings because of TF. When the cartoon went to a five days a week format, I thought it was the best thing ever. Even now I have several TF tee shirts I wear...
