It seems to me that the same principle works in the reverse, to the PCs favor, as well. The Tarrasque's Will defense is *ELEVEN* points lower than its AC, for example.

THAC0 was . . . no good. I think I liked it better when we had a list of different ACs across your character sheet and you wrote the number you needed to roll to hit that AC in a box beneath each one. Heh. That, and the super-secret hidden saving throw chart which was impossible to find in...

But the property as written specifically makes vorpal weapons a lot better, and I imagine that was at least part of the aim. Using those other solutions wouldn't help vorpals at all.

I'd say it just takes the direct damage that its melee basic attack normally deals, and no additional effects.

The class looks fun, and cool, but not especially overpowered thus far. I don't foresee a massive rise in Fighter unemployment figures any time soon.
