During the summer i read the Kobold guide to game design and found it a very pleasant and interesting!
Wolfgang Baur approach is very helpful and i found very often aligned with his thoughts!
It is not a recent book (i believe the current one is the 3rd edition) but i do reccomend it.
Great editing job here, congrats! I can understand what is behind as i am doing the same for my game... It seems smtg stupid but it is not and, moreover, it takes a hell of time!
Sorry if i ask you about such details but i am interested in knowing the printing options provided by Lulu (i am...
Well, you can have even the other way round: this would be interesting to my eyes instead! I mean: instead of playing D&D you can have fun to play a "tweaked" version of it... That's the main idea of the OSR movement...
...well, welcome in the collectors' market! This is where you find OD&D woodgrain editions sold between 5000$ and 15000$ according to the print run! (And this is only one of the many examples!)
I am (even if i try to get out of it) one of those crazy fellows... I am not shocked by the price of...
Mine are:
A. 25€
B. 35€
C. 45€
D. I do not buy pdf (they have no value for my standards)
I would also like to add two points:
1. I am aware of the differences between literature and RPG but it would be interesting running the same survey for books and see why RPGs are always more expensive...
I posted my thought about your request on a different thread so that i won't bring OT this one... However i have a question about your original question: what are you looking for in a 100-page game?
Hereby a summary of what you could/couldn't find in it (not exhaustive):
Rules only (pure...
This morning i wanted to post a thought on this thread which draw my interest:
https://www.enworld.org/threads/best-favorite-thin-rpg-core-book.691438/page-1
But then I thought i would have gone OT because of a "parallel thought" not centered on the discussion: I am aware that this is a...
I got an update from Drivethru last week (iirc) where there was a new guideline for submissions with artworks AI generated. It is now necessary to disclose the presence of AI art at the submission but (...there is always a "but"!) in case the outcomes of the AI are significantly post-edited...
I am not sure what is the First world... This is the first time i read this term with the capital letter.
I am sure that Blackmoor pre-existed any other setting as it was the very first setting ever made up (and eventually it has been published by Judges Guild as "First Fantasy Campaign"... Omen...
I am currently writing it!
Please be patient and in a month or two I will publish a playtest edition of the core rules! Then will follow the expanded rules and the setting...
Well, the poll doesn't include the very first setting of rpg history, Blackmoor. I would have voted for it...
But given what someone has done in the past with the revamping of Blackmoor for 3.5, i prefer not to see any further re-edition of the gems of the past (for the announcment of a new...
This is what is also present in all the previous editions... It has not changed over time. And this is what i have always found a leak in D&D... And this is notwithstanding the illuminated concept Gygax had since the very beginning (there is an article in the Strategic Review which show how...
This is where i ended as well: in the game i am writing there are 4 alignments and they are not defined as a single concept, they are areas where a character can move from an extreme position (like the utmost-evil) to mild ones up to the opposite (like the light-evil mentioned above)... This...
What about the retroclones/OSR? Are these games not material, or are they somehow "out of scope" (meaning they are included in the "label" d&d)? There are at least a couple of titles that are worth to be mentioned in terms of market size...
Funny: it is nor AI neither internet... We are racist, sexist and so forth... This is the true finding... I wonder what could be the first though of AI about us once it will be able to think...
