Flashing Blades (use versatile weapon as though double)

Instead of +1 damage I can Twin Strike with a longsword? That doesn't seem right. Aragorn isn't a dual-wielder. If a 4e player wants their character to be a dual-wielder, they should be choosing a class with a dual-wielding fighting style. (As for Aragorn, a warlord with Ritual Caster seems to...

    Battlerager Vigor... by the book

That ability basically canceled ongoing damage, auto-damage, and minion damage. With a +4 or +5 Con you could counter half the incoming damage at the lowest levels. It needed hitting with a nerf stick. At best, I might have accepted that as a paragon path ability. It reminded me of this...

Martial Practices how can we fix them, systematically?

We got into a battle (enemy were on the other side of the river), and surprised the enemy by having the whole party walk across the river to them. Walking, running, charging, etc, depending on the particular PC. It's not like we couldn't have crossed the river without the ritual (stronger...

Martial Practices how can we fix them, systematically?

Water Walk was a great example of that type of ritual. Same with Speak with Dead. Either are very useful when you need them. You might use then repeatedly in a single day. You don't need them every day. You won't necessarily know you'll need them. For instance, I used the ritual when we went...

Martial Practices how can we fix them, systematically?

I've yet to see a utility power that had a casting time of 5 or 10 minutes. A utility power is something you would want to use every day. Many rituals wouldn't be used daily. That's a quick skill use. Sounds more like a utility power. Running all day is more like a Martial Practice.

    Vampire Darkages

You probably want this forum on ENWorld: http://www.enworld.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?49-Gamers-Seeking-Gamers I presume this is not Dark Ages: Vampire but the names are similar enough you probably want to clarify this. I don't even live in the US, but I'd be more likely to play Vampire: Dark...

Martial Practices how can we fix them, systematically?

I definitely would not want to get rid of rituals. A problematic "spell" like Teleport was quite well-fixed just by making it a ritual. You can't just run away from being detected or combat, you can't teleport anywhere you want to go (only where the setting allows it), etc. The Martial...

CritCon: Toronto's newest gaming convention. Guests include Ed Greenwood and Robin Laws!

The University of Toronto Tabletop Gaming Club (formerly University of Toronto Role Playing Group) has been working on a gaming convention for March, and are proud to announce CritCon, a gaming convention located in the downtown core, right on the St. George Campus. CritCon 2017 will be held...

Cleric-based opponent NPC with special mount or something similar?

The Wild Cohort feat could do it... but I think I would just give her a fiendish lizard (advanced HD) and add its CR to the EL.

    Ranger tips? 4E PHB only

A melee ranger usually goes Strength primary and Dex secondary. (WotC suggested Dex primary and Strength secondary for an archer, but every archer ranger I've ever seen took Wisdom secondary.) As an elf, you'll have a high Wisdom anyway. Your high Dex will mitigate your low AC somewhat, but take...

    Power question: Everywhere and Nowhere

I think you teleport before the attack lands, since it's a free action teleport. Which makes this power incredibly powerful.

fun idea i had: wool constructs

I like the idea, but I think I'd actually make them a little vulnerable to fire. I really like the static electricity effect :D I'm thinking of these in 4e terms. I'd think a wet construct would be slowed and weakened (and maybe a penalty to hit to attacks) (save ends). Of course, you'd face...

    Tiers of play

It's pretty similar. There's only three "official" tiers, heroic, paragon, and epic. At paragon level you can go into the Underdark (most Underdark monsters are paragon level) and start visiting other planes (you can jump to most planes around 14th to 18th level, but there are "crossing" rituals...

    Samurai concept

For 4e purposes, I think I would build a theme (or possibly several themes) rather than a class. A samurai could be anything from an archer warlord to a slayer with Unarmored Agility to a tempest fighter. Even a lazy warlord (Toyotomi Hideyoshi, I'm looking at you).

    Theory crafting 'Contact Spirit' spell

You could get any known information from someone's spirit. If you can't control exactly which spirit you contact, then it's possible to limit the info.

    Theory crafting 'Contact Spirit' spell

This sounds much like the Commune with Nature spell, except with some flavor differences, letting you ask a broader array of questions. I don't think you should be able to just commune with a spirit, even if you know their truename. I believe there's an Eberron magic item that does something...

    Samurai concept

Muskets were common on the battlefield in that era, but they were generally used by ashigaru (peasant levies) from what I've heard. For instance, when Oda fought Takeda, his spear-wielders were samurai and his gunmen were commoners. Takeda used samurai cavalry and unfortunately the two sources I...
