[Patronage] Patrons of the Monstrous Arts

I do hope you'll consider it, as I think this is an excellent model for indie game publishers, illustrators, and fans alike. Should be a big win all around.

Patronage Project? For the Monster book?

As a thank you to our earliest patrons, Mr. Purdy has agreed to do a few of the custom illustrations in advance of the art budget being released. You can see the first preview here: Patrons of the Monstrous Arts » Early Patronage Previews: GRIMLOCK! — Kickstarter

Patronage Project? For the Monster book?

Yep yep! For goodness sakes, the $25 level is essentially a pre-order-- you get a copy of the book after all. (And $25 might end up being cheaper than the cover price, too.) Also remember, you aren't charged anything until the project hits full funding.

[Patronage] Patrons of the Monstrous Arts

The Patrons of the Monstrous Arts project will use a fantasy roleplaying “monster manual” as a test case for patronage funding of the publisher’s art budget: Dedicated fans make an early commitment to the work, specifically by funding the art budget to increase the number and quality of...

[MONSTERS] Monster Advancement - Implied Simulationism

Multiplication table? That's a harsh, if accurate, description. Hmm. I'm still not hearing what you want, I suppose. Does this comport with what I said above: And finally: There's a few ways I can move here based on what folks want. Option 1: by Creature Type. Find the Type of creature...

[MONSTERS] Monster Advancement - Implied Simulationism

I think we both know you are not typical and your order of seconds certainly stretches into minutes for most folks (myself included). In fact you are so atypical I really struggle to come up with anything that you, BryonD, will find more useful than what you can do yourself, unfettered from any...

[MONSTERS] Monster Advancement - Implied Simulationism

I think there are conflicting desires between ease, options, and speed. I would like a "correct average answer" on an oversized table, with respect to the parts of monster creation that are a drag: the Spine statblock. I'm happy with this being an average because, for the most part, the Spine...

[MONSTERS] Monster Advancement - Implied Simulationism

Hmm... I've never actually considered the bugbear to be just a big goblin. (Ditto for hobgoblins.) I always considered them distinct "breeds." Is goblin > hobgoblin > bugbear the same thing as chihuahua > beagle > mastiff?

Patronage Project? For the Monster book?

My current list includes only SRD monsters-- but it includes all variants/sizes of each creature and all the templates. That list numbers 577. Incidentally this means, perforce, that the print version won't be able to hold fast to my goal of 1 monster per page-- but since that particular goal...

Patronage Project? For the Monster book?

Just a quick heads up, we've been green-lit at Kickstarter for this patronage project-- we're definitely going to give it a try. If you have any comments or concerns you'd like to work out in advance, now is the time to raise them. I have a few questions myself: 1) Do the price break points...

    [MONSTERS] Design Discussion and Preview

My option is to almost always ignore the size modifier for Stealth. I do this primarily by not having things as big as a barn even bother trying to hide. If for some reason I need a T-Rex to stalk the players, or if I want to hide an elephant behind the couch, I can trouble myself to jot down...

Patronage Project? For the Monster book?

I've already considered this and there are a few obvious solutions-- and perhaps some that I haven't thought of. "First Come First Serve" is always an option. If somehow there's a stampede of patrons (I should be so lucky) then I can have folks list their top 5, and take the first one that's...

What's happening with 3e?? Open Design, Necromancer Games, Sinister Adventures, Monte

Sigh. I know. Trying to sort that out with them delayed the release by at least 2 weeks and in the end, there was nothing they could do about it (period) and nothing we could do about it without significant additional delays (i.e., redoing the layout entirely to account for their screen issues)...

Patronage Project? For the Monster book?

I still have to work out the details. This was just a question of feasibility. I am glad there's a bit of interest, but the rubber hits the road when the patronage project is actually up and running. I'll post one of Scott's illos that I got just this morning. Mr. Purdy likes to complain...

What's happening with 3e?? Open Design, Necromancer Games, Sinister Adventures, Monte

I'd like to encourage folks to check out Trailblazer, available in PDF format for a steal ($5) or in print through Amazon. See my sig for details. There are a lot of reviews out there for Trailblazer and I am happy to say they are almost universally enthusiastic.

The Quadratic Fighter - rebuilding the class (PEACH)

The fighter is not burdened by resource management. It has neither a quadratically increasing power curve, nor a quadratically decreasing power curve as resources diminish. His power curve is linear, but it is consistent. It's easy to grasp. Some players don't want 50 different things to...
