    Jewish RPG Content

I am trying to use OpenQuest for characters like this because I see a skill based system is better for those ideas vs. a class based one from D&D. A merchant w/a little or lot of magic or warrior ability. The BRP forum had a suggestion for it...

Dragonlance Dragonlance Lawsuit Dismissed Without Prejudice

The advancing timeline did not work out for Forgotten Realms, that may not be true for Dragonlance. The world itself has been blown up, ripped out of time, etc. in the novels enough that it may be more accepted vs the Realms where the campaign was planned to change and the novels followed suit...

D&D General The DM is Not a Player; and Hot Topic is Not Punk Rock

Don't have time to read the whole thread, but a DM in D&D is not a player. The DM is a presenter. They can be a story teller just like the players are story tellers, but the DMs, for lack of a better term, have more power than the players in the story: DM: there is a 100' chasm in front of...

Dragonlance Dragonlance Lawsuit Dismissed Without Prejudice

A reboot of a pretty popular D&D setting is not necessarily going to bring in fans of the world. I think an evolution of the world to a new 'standard' is a better way to go. Maybe, after all the hullabaloo of the last few centuries the 'Gawds' have learned something. The restrictions they...

D&D General What is the appeal of Tolkien fantasy races?

I think culture has a big part in this. Before Tolkien, elves and dwarves were portrayed as simply fey in much of the fantasy art of the 1800s. And before that the sidhe were seen as spirit creatures that lived in worlds beyond are own. Most fantasy was about how humans, even those w/the...

D&D 5E (2014) Everyone Should Play Custom Lineage by Default

Isn't this how GURPS & Savage Worlds do their non-humans? Actually, I think True20 did also.

D&D General What would a succubus say?

"Mmm, watching you suffer is almost as fun as when I bring misery to your parent/passed guardian/mentor's soul. The best is when I'm done... they ask for more. You'll be begging too." ;)

D&D General Ideas for other Orcish religions/cultures that are alternatives to the Gruumshite religion

In a C&C campaign, the greatest orc warrior Gornulf (or something similar; they were Britain's idea of vikings) challenged their blood god to a battle for souls and freedom. If the orcs won, the blood god would have to release them from their place as his slaves and find peace away from battle...

News Digest for the Week of September 25

I don't think so, or at least hope not. It's been awhile but IIRC Planescape was much more popular than Spelljammer. I think it's easier to install the ships into Planescape vs the other way around.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun doesn't actually need Psionics

You could look at Low-Fantasy Gaming's use of magic. Darker & dangerous with a count down to trouble vs luck:

Magic for My New Fantasy Setting - Seeking Opinions

In DL the moons each represented the 3 gods of magic. DL has always been a big influence in my home worlds, for better or for worse. My first game product ever was a Taladas adventure.

Magic for My New Fantasy Setting - Seeking Opinions

EDIT: I should say Fantasy & Modern AGE are this way. Dragon AGE does have an origin for the magic.

Magic for My New Fantasy Setting - Seeking Opinions

In the AGE style games there is only the mage class that casts spells w/no real origin. I've thought of settings where the gods died and their 'secrets' of magic that leaked form their mythological brains soaked into the world. Some individuals absorb this and become mages. For a D&D clone I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun doesn't actually need Psionics

It will really depend on players for this instance then. Maybe the best bet for defile magic is to give two options; one that shows defiling as a norm and defiling as a bonus. Let the group decide.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun doesn't actually need Psionics

I kind of like this idea. Maybe, w/the gods out of the astral plane and absorbing that power, it begun to or has been for a while leaking into Athas and mutating the creatures of the world.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun doesn't actually need Psionics

Just a thought; what about psionics as feats? take a feat & have access to a dicipline & a few associated powers. Did someone say this already & I missed it?

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun doesn't actually need Psionics

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem w/it as a player. I love those sort of ideas. The problem is that the drawback/penalty is more than just RP/story/theme. It is now a mechanical issue. That's why I think the idea of corruption or mechanical benefit for defiling is more even mechanically...

Delicious for the DM or delicious for the player?

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun doesn't actually need Psionics

But having to deal with the NPC or PC reprecussions of defiling is a drawback. How can one have a wizard w/a druid in a group without having the drawback/penalty? EDIT: or a Pisonicist for that matter?
