Were the 80s really the Golden Age of D&D?

Good art, design, layout, etc. are not necessarily something that shows a "golden age." In my experiences, the most common usage of "Golden Age" is comic books. The comic book Golden Age is considered to be the late 1930s through the 1940s. During that Golden Age comic books were first...

Were the 80s really the Golden Age of D&D?

Sounds a lot like Greg Stafford's Prince Valiant game. Hardly any math (2 stats that range from 1-6) or mechanics. It is even called a storytelling game. To my knowledge, it is the first RPG to have a section on players taking over the game. Of course, Prince Valiant wasn't popular, and the...

A Thing I Don't Like About Adventure Paths

While that is one of the things I dislike about Adventure Paths. In the end, the players find that every antagonist they dealt with, from beginning to end, was tied into the BBEG in some fashion. All wrapped up in a long involved, convoluted package, true, but still one package. I have said...

    Dungeon Denizens / Creature Collection

I have both books and have used both. However, I have found Goodman's Critter Cache series to be the best of the 3rd party monster books. Each book has a strong theme, and that helps when looking up a particular sort of monster. That being said, all of the aforementioned books do seem to have...

    Pre-Day of Mourning Khorvaire?

Forge of War must have such a map (certainly one of pre-Mourning Cyre). It is all about the Last War and adventuring during it. Eidt: Indeed, the Forge of War Map Gallery is still up at the WotC site.

    Interactive World Building

Robin Laws blog has a lot of these bits periodically appear. Here is a good entry and here is another. There are, of course, other interesting gaming theory posts (this comes to mind), but many of them deal with giving some narrative spinning options to the player.

    Unpainted Plastics?

To be fair, it was an unpainted version of the second core set ("Unlimited"). Unless you were specifically interested in painting the miniatures, there was little interest from MK players. If they had done a line with even a handful of unique dials in the set, there might have been more...

    Best pulp RPG game

Interesting, because I consider Lands of Mystery, by Aaron Allston for Justice, Inc. to be one of the best RGP supplements ever. It not only has great ideas for running a Lost Worlds campaign, but it has tips for handling players with different level characaters (from the strong jawed hero, to...

    Best pulp RPG game

Maybe it's just the parent company does a poor job of organizing the many products using the system so you can see what there is. Most of the "settings" I saw were pretty niche.

    Best pulp RPG game

I have Daredevils. As a system, it didn't attract me. However, I have adapted a couple of the adventures to Justice, Inc.

4E Class Survivor Round 17 - The Fighter is the Sole Survivor!

As I recall, American Idol style tends to peter out after a few rounds. It might just have been how it was run. The advantage of the TV show is that they keep the actual votes secret. Without them being secret, you can get almost the direct order of voting after the first round.

4E Class Survivor Round 17 - The Fighter is the Sole Survivor!

And the Fighter fought his way to the top and is the Sole Survivor. Congratulations! The Fighter gets the 1,000,000 gp prize. Unfortunately, this is divided equally among all fighters, which works out to about 1/8 of a cp each and all of that was spent at the bar in the celebration of the win.

    Sellout Woot and D&D

Woot cycles through things on a regular basis (typically once a day, but much more often when they have a "woot off").

4E Class Survivor Round 17 - The Fighter is the Sole Survivor!

People always do. However, that's the way Survivor always works. The last vote, to determine the winner, is always to vote for the winner. To do it otherwise wouldn't be Survivor. If you can't read the many warnings and instructions, I have no sympathy.

4E Class Survivor Round 17 - The Fighter is the Sole Survivor!

The wizard said his goodbyes and now we are on for the battle for the last survivor! Important new rule: This round we are voting for the last survivor (as with the TV survivor show rules). Vote for the class you want to be the LAST SURVIVOR.

And the wizard disappears in a puff of smoke. The final battle is between the fighter and rogue.

    Possible different types of adventures.

From a practical standpoint, the more focus on "background" in an adventure, the less likely I am going to be able to use it for a campaign. I will usakky be able to fit a very small area in my campaign (a town and a dungeon, for example). When the module starts referring to detail larger...

4E Class Survivor - Round 16 (We have the final 3!)

Note to the note: That just means the next round poll was started before the poll had run its course (by less than an hour). I wanted to get the next poll up before I disappeared. I have no ability to "end the poll" once I set the time limit in the beginning.

    Hasbro Quarterly Report

Ridley Scott has hinted that there would be some commentary on the current conditions in the world financial/real estate markets. There were hints that it might be somewhat dark from commentary I've seen, but I am not sure where they got the hints.
