We also know, as viewers, that Devlin’s a stone cold killer from prior episodes. In setting, Matt, with his senses, probably has no trouble believing Devlin and his crew’s willingness to kill hostages as necessary.

I don’t necessarily see an edition change as a treadmill, particularly when it’s so compatible. Periodic cleanup and consolidation can be a good thing.

Well sure, you get lots more network efficiency that way - meaning more products, more players, widespread familiarity, etc, even if they aren’t a perfect fit.

Change is one thing. But I sure wouldn’t mind if the change was managed incrementally like with some of my favorite Chaosium games like Call of Cthulhu and Pendragon. I’m quite OK with 5e.2024 being an incremental step from 5e.2014, just like I was for 2e being a step from 1e. Bring me along...
