    How does Burning Wheel play?

I took a look at the thread - not much there crunch-wise at the moment. :) So far I've only written up a conversion for Beliefs and Instincts. Both are basically the same deal as in BW - write up three of each, make them interesting and tools for conflict/drama, expose them to the GM and...

    How does Burning Wheel play?

Thanks for all the replies. Any more? Side note - upon reading, I thought the Let it Ride rule was pretty cool, not so much from the standpoint of player-protection, but from the standpoint of making individual skill rolls more consequential and more meaningful. However, just as I wouldn't...

    How does Burning Wheel play?

After reading some interesting things about Burning Wheel meta-mechanics and ideas, I picked it up mainly with an eye towards stealing some of those mechanics for my other games, and probably still will. But after reading it, the game itself sounds ... interesting. Certainly it is a bit...

Laying out your dungeon - advice?

I have a ton of tiles (2x of each set, 5x times that in home made tiles), 20+ battlemaps (Paizo flipmaps and similar homemade oness), cardstock and wargaming terrain (20+ bins), and a slew of minis (7,000+ DDM) - so organization and usage has become very important to me over the last few years...

What rules light fantasy system would you recommend for 'winging it'?

Yeah, a lot of good stuff here. I'm glad I kept reading beyond a suggestion. I'm definitely going to check out a few of these games, if for nothing else than to steal ideas for my usual game. :)

What rules light fantasy system would you recommend for 'winging it'?

You might take a look at Savage Worlds. Its got decent (as far as completeness goes) Test Drive rules, and the Explorers Edition rulebook is only $9.99 if you wanted to go all out. :) Then, download the free Wizards and Warriors PDF (fantasy character creation) and Against the Orcs PDF...

Gaming Props - What do you use?

I tend to use lots of props when I DM, probably to make up for a general lack of skill. :) Here are some things I use: * Minis (lots and lots of minis) * Cardstock terrain, wargame terrain, dungeon tiles, homemade tiles, battlemaps, etc. * Poker chips for bennies and certain conditions * Red...

Tell me about the terrain accessories...

I have a lot of different types of terrain. For cardstock, I second the recommendations for WorldWorksGames and Fat Dragon for Fantasy. EbblesMiniatures is great for SciFi, as well. There is also another company, Paper Miniatures AT, that does some very cool desert buildings and an Asian...

    Answers on the GSL!

Well, this isn't as good as it could be, but its better than I'd hoped. My concern was that my favorite game companies would have to make a horrid choice (that would affect their long term viability as companies): support OGL products or GSL products, but not be able to support both. Based on...

Notes from a Savage Worlds fantasy campaign (updated with 05/28/08 session notes!)...

Hmm. I might have to get that, too, when I get Savage Freeport. I like Monster Books too. I just picked up 3x Tome of Horrors I and III and I'm looking for a version of ToH II, since Pathfinder uses them extensively. Speaking of, have you read Paizo's Classic Monsters Revisited? At the risk of...

    Printing PDFs

Gents, I think you should reference the Copyright Notice, especially this line: "Lulu respects the intellectual property of others, and we ask our creators to do the same. You must own the copyright to any material you publish on Lulu." AFAIK - and I am also not a lawyer - even publishing...

Notes from a Savage Worlds fantasy campaign (updated with 05/28/08 session notes!)...

Thats a great list, Flynn (although I'd add the Shaintar Player's Guide only because its such a "classic" fantasy setting, and its good to see how that has been Savaged). I'd also suggest looking at the Savage Worlds Horror GM Toolkit for additional inspiration, rules and powers, and Runepunk...

Pathfinder 1E I Have the Pathfinder Gazetteer PDF (Paizo)

I second just how very awesome this product is. One of the coolest setting products (and maybe the outright coolest) that I've read. One thing that fascinates me about the product is how different, yet familiar it is. I think the way they created parallels between real world...

    Map needed: volcano, lava tubes

I dunno if you're just looking for a DM map, or battlemaps for minis as well. If its the latter ... you might check out a few of Skeletonkey's more recent releases. They've done a couple of Volcano/Lava style releases. http://enworld.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=51577...

    Recommended 1E house rule compliations?

You'll want to address XP, such as do you translate GP to XP directly. You'll also want to address training rules - do you use them as-is, or do you mod them? (There are good arguments for both.) You might want to take a look at this document about the initiative & combat system. Its a bit...

Back to D&D after 18 Yrs

Along these lines, if you're interested in a version of the game that very much resembles AD&D (which 3x and 4x do not), but has a bit more updated mechanics, look into Castles and Crusades by Troll Lords Games. C&C is nice, in that it allows you to port in material from B/X, 1st, 2nd and 3rd...

Help! I have no players to complain about!

That is just awesome, and I know exactly what this feels like. I don't subscribe to the "bad gaming is better than no gaming" adage, and coming to the conclusion that life is too short for bad gaming - and following up with the necessary (even if uncomfortable) actions when confronted with bad...

How do you store / organise your dungeon tiles?

I use the thick ziplock freezer baggies to sort various sizes, and then put those and the largest pieces, which don't fit, into Container Store Men's shoe boxes. (The Men's shoe boxes are bigger than the normal shoe boxes, and happen to be a perfect fit for the large tiles.)

    Does WOTC have the right?

Heh. There is a typo in there. "In Wizards sold discretion...". ;)

Looking for a large evil city setting or module

I'd definitely 2nd/3rd/4th the City State book. Its fantastic. You might also look at the Sword & Sorcery sourcebook Calastia, set in the Scarred Lands. Its got a lot of good info about a Lawful Evil society, including some cities.
