Despite your attempt at baiting me, I'll respond in the manner established in this thread.
I've already described why I think it's abuse. I'm not a big fan of repeating myself.
I am making no attempt to "invent language". I simply compressed a phrase (or possibly a whole paragraph) into a term...
I was under the impression True20 was under copyright provision, not logo-stricken OGL. I'll have to review their OGL. But then, just the fact that it allows you to use the license without the logo is indeed one example of abuse, which the GSL remedies.
As a note to those who don't understand the language, subsection 5.5 is not restricting the production of products supporting their licensed product. What it is saying is that the products cannot be considered covered by the license or be packaged with the licensed product.
And that's exactly why you should leave contract denial to the lawyers. If you read through this thread, you'll see why your number 4 doesn't actually exist.
Then your point is moot, because we're talking about abuses WITHIN the OGL, not outside of it.
No, I was talking about Dancey's orginal article, which contains a diagram.
You've made a general statement saying "I don't see any changes to the GSL that will bring the "guarantee" back." Since no...
I suppose that is possible, but it's not WOTC's style, and yes it could happen in the future, after realigning the planets and calling on Samhain, but its another one of those things that would cause any court to cry foul. But granted, in a very worst-case scenario, if courts were all about...
My view on that has already been well established in this discussion. The gist is: A concept can have a solid theory, but poor execution. I'm of the belief that the OGL is exactly that, regardless of the source. Big names mean nothing to me. If the GPL is that close to the OGL and cuts off the...
By the way, where do I find this 22 page errata?
The only errata I can find for the PHB is 11 pages, and that's generous, because the text is all 14 pt. Cut it down to 10 pt, and you're left with 7 pages, 6 pages if you remove the update list.
Race does matter after 1st level. It's a matter of perspective. One person believes that a skill that is immediately available and which never stops helping with the same bonus is helpful at all levels, while another believes that unless the ability improves through levels that its not helping...
I don't know if anyone has covered this, but turn to the character sheet at the back of 3e PHB and you'll find a full page RPGA add. Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with advertising your other products. I don't see how some small little box that merely mentions the RPGA and clearly...
Back on topic, as a matter of keeping a proper record of the precise points that are "deal breakers":
1) Periodical publishers inability to support past issues. (Subsection 6.1)
2) Once changed to GSL, product line cannot be changed back to OGL, meaning the product rises or falls with 4e...
Considering WOTC's slow to respond ways in other areas (often taking up to 6 months to formulate a reply), I think everyone should view it as a good sign that WOTC is being so proactive so quickly.
Here are the major changes we should be expecting to see (disregarding minor irritants to...
A license should establish a relationship between the licenser and the licensee. The OGL removes all impact of any relationship between WOTC and its licensees. It allows no political ground on WOTC's part (I mean "political" in the "personal politics" way, such as relationship turmoil and...
A company can't make an OGL of WOTC's product, but why should they be restricted from making a license of their own for their own mechanics and IP? It's meaningless. And I'm not sure about the law regarding it, but even if the law wouldn't see it as monopolistic practices, it seems unethical to...
First, dmccoy, saying "non-GSL" is too broad. It would be unreasonable especially considering that they simply want to phase out the OGL, not restrict publishers from their own licenses.
Sorry, but this is just plain wrong. Artwork can only be covered under copyright, not license. What a license...
Breeching the terms can lead to a lawsuit. The point is that WOTC can't revoke the OGL so long as the licensee, any licensee, chooses to use the OGL and does so without breech. WOTC can't choose who uses the licenses and can't revoke it at will.
I forked that discussion over to "Forked Thread: What is WOTC's Goal with the GSL?", so please continue that discussion there.
Let's get back to discussing deal breakers, instead of WOTC's motives.
Forked from: What is it about the GSL that is really a deal breaker?
I agree with your first three bullets with the exception that Microsoft sells cheaper, not more expensive. It's apple that sells expensive.
Your next bullet regarding the readiness of the license is purely speculative, and...
