    Is it just me...

3E kept the basic classes, races, and terminology, but, among other changes, introduced the D20 mechanic and a more complex combat system. It relaxed rules for racial- and multi-classing, introduced a formal and consistent skills system and used a "modular" system for magic items. From what...

    Is it just me...

But the changes between AD&D and 3E were far greater than the forecast shift from 3E to 4E. The system isn't being overhauled, just updated.

Good points, but when I hear "halfling", I immediately think of hobbits, and not feeble, bastardised kender elflings. Not that I'm biased at all. However, even a gangly oran-utang woudn't have a strength score greater than 8. I calculated that when I offered to fight one for cash, but the zoo...

D&D 4E The internet: 4E can't have it both ways

Forgive the stereotype, but I can't imagine 75% of a nerd, RPing community not having internet access. I would suggest that it's either an exceptional case, or that the LGS owner is mistaken.

Eight is Enough: How Many Classes?

It's a cover. The classes will include "fighting man", "halfling", and "elf", D4 hitpoints will stay, and grognards will rise up and declare a new world order. www.theonion.com/content/node/29464

    C&C Questions

Wrong forum, my friend! Ask the mods to shift it to the General RPG forum. You'll get much better feedback there. I'm an aspiring convert: I have the C&C books and we've run a couple of experimental sessions, but my group is a little hesitant to drop D&D. We'll decide when 4E comes out. For...

D&D 4E The internet: 4E can't have it both ways

I mentioned it in that thread because some WotC staff post here in response to assertions or speculations on the boards here, which suggests they're keeping an eye on the reaction to the news they're releasing. How much it affects their decisions is another matter. Opinion is usually divided...

    Post-apocalypse & fantasy races

Ah, that is good. I've never really looked into Shadowrun - cyberpunk was never to my taste - but my tastes are changing. Thanks.

    So..tell me about Eberron

I see. Post #97 doesn't exist. Now that that's cleared up, good luck to everyone with Eberron, whatever they like or dislike about it. Over and out.

No, it bothers me that small races can have a strength score above about 8. No, because it doesn't flagrantly violate the natural laws the game world assumes elsewhere. Ah, well where is the line drawn in that case? Anything can be excused by saying it's fantasy, but my taste for fantasy...

    So..tell me about Eberron

    No Penalties

Of course not. A small constitution penalty is appropriate for a race which is human-sized but often slimmer and frailer. Having a 3-foot-tall fellow with the strength of a heavyweight boxer is pushing the envelope, though.

    So..tell me about Eberron

I've addressed that quite enough, and for the last time. Not at all. My thoughts on Eberron had developed long before I even realised that C&C didn't mean Call of Cthulu! Besides, I would rather have a well-supported, professionally-produced version of D&D which supports a medium-power...

I wonder, also, how much tweaking is based on community feedback. They pay attention to what's said on message boards.

D&D 4E What has you excited about 4e?

Those, plus it seems like it will be more "handy" - no referring to books and tables every time a character so much as sneezes. I hope.

I agree with Rechan, mostly, but already I weep when I see halfling PCs with 12+ strength. It puts another nail into the coffin of verisimilitude.

    D&D Iconic Characters

Ny wish for the new iconics is to have names which sound original and individual, and not like two randomly-selected syllables thrown together.

    Post-apocalypse & fantasy races

I want to incorporate them into a near-future apocalypse scenario (2015-2030), so I can't go too far ahead with technology or mutations. Also, I want to include magic in the campaign and preserve some sort of alien-ness in the non-human characters. The shadowkind model from Urban Arcana is...

Elan vs. Illumians, which ones better?

Me too. Illumians are more of a last-minute creation to fill a book and continue a revenue stream than a considered race.
