    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

"We can all use a rest after that," Mindra looks around at the gloomy forest, "but we'll have to stay alert." Weakened by a hit from a shadow, Mindra finds a place to sit back and rest. She tries to remain aware of her surroundings, but rest takes precedent. She hopes that those less effected by...

    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

Mindra is getting a bit desperate as she and her friends have yet to take down one of the shadows. Hoping to thin their numbers, she continues to focus on the shadows attacking Beturea, but also trying to target a shadow that looks fairly ragged already. Taking aim, she pierces another shadow...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tasha’s cauldron character thread

Well it definitely has a Jedi feel to it, but I like that concept anyway, so it works for me. Another note is that, with the Telekinetic feat at 1st level I can play a Psi Warrior right away and don't have to wait until 3rd level for it to kick in.

D&D 5E (2014) My Quick and Dirty Tasha Read

Sure, and I'm saying that there are people that like that gamble. I'll agree that killing your team with a fireball might not be fun, but the one time our sorcerer was turned into a potted plant was hilarious. Afterwards his character claimed he had seen the error of his ways after having seen...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tasha’s cauldron character thread

I had a Psychic Warrior from the 3.x days, so the Psi Warrior lets me remake him. Not exactly the same, but with the same flavor. Variant Human, +1 Dex, +1 Con, Feat: Telekinetic (+1 Int), Skill: Acrobatics Other skills: Athletics, History, Insight, Perception Fighting Style: Blind Fighting...

    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

Seeing as Beturea insists on continuing to put herself in harms way, Mindra prioritizes her targets to help her as much as she can. Lining up on the oddly sparkly shadow Mindra sinks an arrow into it before hiding back behind her crates. Mindra will attack shadow #1 Shortbow attack with...

D&D General Do you allow "crossplaying" at your table? Has it ever caused problems?

One thing I have found useful about running characters of the opposite gender is that it allows you to practice trying to think like the opposite gender. Which is then useful for when you are trying to write a story. I'm sure I am not the only person here that has tried their hand at authoring...

D&D 5E (2014) My Quick and Dirty Tasha Read

My first impressions. Drow are gray and WotC doesn't like drawbacks on abilities, powers, or characters in general. First, drow. Honestly I always thought the pitch black skinned drow were very difficult to picture, and extremely difficult to draw. If you look back at previous version of D&D...

You list second wind, but I think you meant action surge. :)

D&D 5E (2014) It's official, WOTC hates Rangers (Tasha's version of Favored Foe is GARBAGE)

I don't have a ton of time to read a long thread like this, but I just really need to get this out. I watched the interview that Jeremy Crawford had taking about Tasha's Cauldron and the guy interviewing him (I assume just another employee at WotC) brought up the alternate ranger feature that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

Mindra lets out a gasp as the shadow reaches through her, but manages to slip away with a twirl as she retreated from the creature. Barely taking time to aim, she smoothly pulled and loosed another arrow which flew straight into the shadow threatening Beturea. She then continued to move, looking...

    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

Mindra takes aim at one of the glowing shadows and releases her arrow, sending it straight through the insubstantial creature. Shortbow attack with advantage, elven accuracy and sneak attack: 3D20.HIGH(1)+7 = [8, 19, 1]+7 = 26 1D6+5+2D6 = [4]+5+[5, 4] = 18

D&D 5E (2014) Jeremy Crawford Discusses Details on Custom Origins

OH! That makes a lot more sense. Sorry for the misunderstanding. And yes, although I am sure it was not intentional, it seems the effort to not pidgeon-hole a race, and therefore make a race less desirable for certain classes, has made it, it appears, so that some races are just flat out better...

D&D 5E (2014) Jeremy Crawford Discusses Details on Custom Origins

Ummm... What? Seriously I don't understand how you arrived at this conclusion. I was just pointing now that half-elves, already a strong choice for "The Best Race" are now even more superior. I didn't say explicitly that this is bad or good, but I thought it was pretty clear that I implied that...

D&D 5E (2014) Jeremy Crawford Discusses Details on Custom Origins

And yes, half-elves were always good. Fair enough, but now they are even better. :) Edit: As an example, I made a half-elf barbarian and put the +1s in Str and Con. But now you can put the +2 in Str and +1s in Con and Dex. That is just flatly better than leaving the +2 in Cha. Not that I'm...

D&D 5E (2014) Jeremy Crawford Discusses Details on Custom Origins

I feel your pain. Save early, save often! I frequently do a Ctrl-A (highlight all text), Ctrl-C (copy all text) before trying to save my post, just in case something goes awry. It it does I can start a new post and paste it in. I think you missed the custom race that Jeremy talked about in the...

D&D 5E (2014) Jeremy Crawford Discusses Details on Custom Origins

Speaking of half-elf... It is another contender for brand new best race. +2 to any stat, +1 to two more stats, darkvision, advantage vs. charmed, immune to magic sleep, two skills of your choice and 3 languages of your choice (well, one almost certainly Common, and two others).

D&D 5E (2014) Jeremy Crawford Discusses Details on Custom Origins

And yet, on Critical Role, Fjord is a Half-Orc Warlock/Paladin and is a great character, despite having no bonus to charisma. Now, I don't know exactly how they come up with their stats, but it looks like they roll for them. I also don't know if Travis decided to put his high roll in charisma...

D&D 5E (2014) Jeremy Crawford Discusses Details on Custom Origins

Some interesting points raised above. As for the "human in a rubber suit" argument, I agree that this is a problem that should be avoided. I don't remember where I read it, it might not even be D&D, but one reason put forth as to why many races were more stereotypical while humans remained...

D&D 5E (2014) Jeremy Crawford Discusses Details on Custom Origins

We can only speculate as to why they did what they did. Although if you listen to the first part of the video, in among the other reasons, racial sensitivity does appear to be one of the reasons. And to be clear, that is absolutely not a bad thing. It can be argued that that kind of thing can go...
