bursts and blasts ignore concealment, not cover. When a grenade comes into the room, hiding in shadows will not help you, but being behind that desk will.

ZEITGEIST Please offer balance and overall feedback for this ZEITGEIST paragon paths

The difference being that Prophecy of Doom converts a hit into a crit, making it slightly less abusive. You might really want your Assassin with a Vicious Weapon to be the one delivering the crit, but if he drops a 4 on the attack roll, it's not going to happen, and then when the Paladin hits he...

ZEITGEIST Please offer balance and overall feedback for this ZEITGEIST paragon paths

First impression stream-of-reading notes: Applied Astronomist's Straddling Realities: The Avilona effects need some 4e rules hung on them. Perhaps fog (obscuring terrain), wind (difficult terrain) or calm air (dispels zones in those spaces). Logos's Make It So: this power seems like it will be...

    ZEITGEIST BSI: Bosum Strand Irregulars

Catching up on two sessions from over a month ago: The constables returned to RHC Headquarters after the events on Cauldron Hill and the rough night at Sechim’s Alkahest. They pulled in some favors to get Mort cured of his murderous impulses, which had been brought on by exposure to the...

    ZEITGEIST BSI: Bosum Strand Irregulars

whew.. I am now 4 sessions behind on recapping. Working on it; hope to have it up sometime this weekend. short recap for those who know the upcoming plot points of the adventure: They went back to Macbannin's Manor and arrested Creed for the murder of Nilasa, but Macbannin is still in...

    ZEITGEIST Zeitgeist level pacing (spoilers)

Yeah, I haven't had any power level problems with them being a level behind. Probably helps that e have a 6-person group, though.

    ZEITGEIST Zeitgeist level pacing (spoilers)

I'm clearly not going by xp. That's kind of the whole point of the post. The adventure path says, in some cases, "do these two encounters, then level, then do another encounter or two, then level." I figured there'd be another point where I could take one of those 9-encounter levels and catch...

    ZEITGEIST Zeitgeist level pacing (spoilers)

I'm a bit concerned about the pace of leveling in Zeitgeist (4e). While levels 1 and 2 seemed to take a while, since then my group barely gets 2 combats in before they're leveling again. No one wants to print their characters because they know they might be printing again in two weeks. While the...

ZEITGEIST Suggestions for things to improve, fix, or add for the ZEITGEIST Act One compilation?

4e Kaja Stewart has the Sense Motive skill in her stat block, which does not exist in 4e. Should be Insight.

    D&D 5E (2014) I just don't buy the reasoning behind "damage on a miss".

The magic of the incantation which allows it to unerringly seek living (or otherwise animate) targets out of a room full of inanimate possibilities is also what keeps it from hitting inanimate objects. "A wizard did it" works both ways, here.

Hardcover adventure compilation, separate player guide?

One of my players complained when she went to the Kickstarter and saw two spoilery pictures. Keeping that book out of player hands seems like a great idea. I bought two of the softcover Player's Guides so my players could borrow them and read up on the world on their own time.

haha. no, you got me. forgot where I was. We threw "realistic" out the window when we said "D&D" :D

That's a 5e Ranger at 11th level with GWF and Whirlwind Attack.

    D&D 5E (2014) I just don't buy the reasoning behind "damage on a miss".

So GD (or GoD, judging by his capabilities) stacks dodge and AC bonuses and is immune to everything? The story of Invincible Man got boring after the first hundred issues of Superman. Why can GD's story not allow for a situation where he has to differentiate from his usual tactic of "Stand next...

    D&D 5E (2014) I just don't buy the reasoning behind "damage on a miss".

Dodging is tiring. He's being missed, but his ability to keep dodging forever is being reduced. Eventually, he'll get nicked, and then seriously injured, if he doesn't find some way to deal with Crazy Halberd Man. Graceful Dodger usually has no trouble, but Crazy Halberd Man is his weakness...

D&D 5E (2014) Evil characters material not going to be in the PHB

There's nothing more evil than making Kender a core race. I'd be fine with all that stuff being shunted off into Book of Vile Darkness Mk. III, but like others have said, I would want that to be an early book so I can start tinkering with villains immediately.

ehm, three classes. Ranger, Paladin, and Fighter all have the same pool of Fighting Styles to pull from. Rangers and Paladins have to wait for 2nd level, though. I agree that there should be more options for all characters to have the opportunity to damage on a miss. Let me tell y'all about my...

    D&D 5E (2014) I just don't buy the reasoning behind "damage on a miss".

I particularly like the 4e powers that let you add in your CON bonus to damage with a two-handed weapon. It's a nice abstraction that rewards people for putting points into a stat that makes sense for someone who is swinging a giant hunk of metal around for long(ish) periods of time. If we...

    D&D 5E (2014) I just don't buy the reasoning behind "damage on a miss".

The amazing skill of the attacker is what makes that weapon seemingly inescapable. Can we not give this fighter/ranger/paladin his due for giving up a class feature that would allow him to block enemy attacks against his allies, or have higher defenses? He has devoted his training to being very...

ZEITGEIST Running Zeitgeist with 7 players?

I started with eight people saying they wanted to play. By the time the first session hit, we were down to six. Two weeks later, we were down to five. Now we're back up to six. The only adjustments I've made to encounters are to make most big-name NPCs at least Elites (double HP and an action...
