    D&D 5E (2014) More Details About Laeral Silverhand’s Explorer’s Kit

Those are some pretty dice. Not sure if I'm interested, though I might get them for my wife as they are her favorite color.

D&D 5E (2014) Is there some kind of hoard rules somewhere?

How do you determine the mob's HP?

D&D 5E (2014) Is there some kind of hoard rules somewhere?

Uh, so, I'll be stealing your Horde rules for my pirate campaign. It didn't even occur to me to use legendary actions for mobs... EDIT: Actually, I might be stealing a lot of monsters from this.

D&D 5E (2014) In our last session... some bits and bobs.

Linguring injuries don't come up often for my groups, fortunately. Only twice for anything permanent, one of which was to a bad guy (which they still love talking about two years later and completely changed a fight in which they were in over their heads); the one for the good guy was the wizard...

D&D 5E (2014) In our last session... some bits and bobs.

As the DM, I'd probably have somewhere that has a scroll of regenerate. Alternatively, some weird magic item--like, a drow had a set of eyeballs that were enchanted by an illithid that allowed them to function as eyeballs for anyone that wears them but they're horrible wiggling things rather...

D&D 5E (2014) Nobody Is Playing High Level Characters

My last campaign went all the way to 20, and they spent a long time 15+, about six months. They spent the majority of that time avoiding at all costs the rest of the campaign and just tooling around getting into trouble. They upset a city-state and caused a military intervention, and left a...

D&D General What are "soft" skills that a DM benefits from learning?

My big four: 1. I always recommend that a DM start with a published adventure or adventure path first, before trying to write their own (this is the voice of experience). Learn how one is built first, then build your own. 2. Don't create what you don't have to create; if you're not publishing it...

D&D 5E (2014) Those who come from earlier editions, why are you okay with 5E healing (or are you)?

I'll chime in and say that I, too, run a slightly grittier game. The DMG varient for Slow Natural Healing is what we use, in combination with a slightly expanded lingering injuries table; to prevent a lingering injury happening a lot, we have a "roll to confirm" whenever a natural 20 occurs on...

AD&D 2E Which is the better fantasy rpg and why: D&D 5e or Pathfinder 2e?

My set of upcoming campaigns is, in order of appearance: Skull & Shackles, Rise of the Runelords, Curse of the Crimson Throne, Shattered Star, and Return of the Runelords. Mummy's Mask will be in there somewhere to break up the "western european fantasy."

AD&D 2E Which is the better fantasy rpg and why: D&D 5e or Pathfinder 2e?

For me and the time I have available, 5e is the better system while Paizo has, by miles, better adventures and campaigns. And a better setting, in my opinion, of course. So, I run Paizo APs using 5e. Heresy, I know.

    D&D 5E (2014) As a DM - Your Top 3 Most Hated Spells

My only real "dislike" spells is identify. Why? Because its so binary. Crazy artifact? "I cast identify!" Cursed item? "Oh, its cursed!" I changed it so that the spell does not work on legendary or artifact magic items, or cursed items. @healing spirit: i also cut this spell entirely, as its...

Chaosium Doing Rivers of London RPG

I love these books. I'm not sure how a RPG with the setting would work, though I'll look forward to it.

D&D General How long do new players get before they're expected to know the rules?

That depends a lot on the player. If I really like the player, they'll get more leeway, but if I already don't like you that much, you won't get as much leeway--assuming you even end up remaining in the group longer than a session or two.

    D&D 5E (2014) Build a Better Psion (Poll)

If I had to pick one, I'd say sorcerer, because that's the closest general idea. I've actually got a homebrew psion that I've been toying with and just started playing the other week (first time I've been a player in 5 years!). Its very similar to sorcerer, that is, a pseudo-full caster...

Unearthed Arcana New Unearthed Arcana: Psionics!

Eh. I like the rogue and fighter subclasses. Interesting, flavorful without being unwieldly (only read twice, though). However, I cannot stand the wizard subclass. I find the mechanics lackluster and if I wanted to play a wizard, I would have just played a wizard--I don't think it adds...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons and Dragons (5th Edition) Class Tier List – 2019

One of my players has been playing a bard for going on three years, and Bardic Inspiration has saved the party's ass on many occasions. However, I will state that Valor bard is kind of suck. That's why there's the College of Swords now!

Pathfinder 1E Your experiences with "Skull & Shackles"

Yes, I have that one as well. It's actually pretty good, and, while it's a little late for the OP's DM to pick up now, I'll be adding it to the campaign whenever I start the actual writing.

Pathfinder 1E Your experiences with "Skull & Shackles"

The majority of the important NPCs get a treatment in future adventures; especially ones like Harrigan and such, they don't get any real detail since the PCs aren't really supposed to fight him during the 1st book of the path. The other NPCs that are in there but aren't detailed I would just...

Pathfinder 1E Your experiences with "Skull & Shackles"

I've read the whole thing, and the problems don't really go away from what I can tell. For my purposes, I plan on re-writing all the ship stuff (and almost all of the second adventure), as I don't like any of it. As for useful advice, however, I'd point your DM towards the Paizo forums. Every...
