Us too! We went from module to module based on how cool the covers were with no idea what Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, or Greyhawk even meant.

I suggest you run a Star Trek game like you mentioned wanting to run in that other thread. Maybe your players will surprise you and give it a try. Indeed! I love that system and setting. I only played in one one-shot but I read the books over and over again.

That's a great point. Sometimes our group will do an ad hoc party session prep when the GM ask us what we plan to do that session. Or I'll consider some things my character might want to do. But I never go through a formalized player session prep process. I'm not in a campaign at the moment...
