D&D 4E Homebrew RPG (4e based): Heroes of Legend

Looks like a good D&D lite. I disagree on a few points with my own Supers ambitions, namely I love At-Will/Encouter/Daily (reskinned as Page/Chapter/Issue or something similar, cant decide on the terms). it clearly makes it so heros in the RPG act like heroes on the page, they don't just go in...

D&D 4E Classless 4e and adaptation for the Superhero Genre

Well there's nothing stopping you from starting the game at Paragon levels, once you hit 15 you get your 4th daily and now have to swap them to get new ones, only Utilities continue to accrue. I think if you were going to play a game based on the Avengers or the JLA this would be a good start...

Reach Weapons for a Warlord (Resourceful)

I like to have a whip. Its offhand and Reach for when you need that if you don't mind it doing only a d4 with +2prof. You can hold a longsword in the other hand for when you can get adjacent.

    D&D 4E 4E Powers and "magic points"

This seems like a bad idea to me, my favorite part of 4e is the by and large lack of 'novas'. Adding a magic point system just seems like it would encourage popping a bunch of dailies every fight.

Anyone importing 4E’s’Used gear sells for 1/5th if at all’ to other RPG systems?

I like the 20% benchmark for the same reason many others do. Its a good 'this is what the raw materials are worth' guideline. When you sell a bunch of swords to a merchant maybe all he sees is steel he can sell to a blacksmith for plows. With Magic items its much the same, they are worth their...

D&D 4E Classless 4e and adaptation for the Superhero Genre

Never read it. But I'm not surprised since this is the thought process for D&D where low level equals low power and high level equals high power.

D&D 4E Classless 4e and adaptation for the Superhero Genre

Ah, I get what you mean Ambush, I really do. But you can still use 4e almost as is, all you need are customized characters, because I don't think the class system does justice to everyone. For Daredevil you simply have to assume he won't be played past the Heroic tier. That's implicit in...

D&D 4E Classless 4e and adaptation for the Superhero Genre

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but since I'm pursuing a similar goal to the OP I may as well chime in. :D The way 4e works from level 1-30 you are always about 4 solid hits from death, all that changes is your tactical versatility. So for my version you level as normal and rely on the...

    Brainstorming: Warlock Pact with Companion?

Pact Companion... any reason not to just call this what it is? A Familiar.

    Floating Ability Bonuses

I like giving everyone any two +2s they want. The races are more or less balanced otherwise, it opens up more class options rather than making any race more potent. For me the racial powers generally are the coolest part of the race more so than their stat mods.

Offering Races Greater Choice of Ability Modifiers

Its a bit complicated for me, if I'm going to create a houserule I want it simple. Just give everyone +2 to any two ability scores.

    Charismatic Swordmage?

Swordmage doesn't really say 'elf magic user' to me at all either way. I also don't think Swordmage is much less complicated than Warlock for a rank newb. I'd go with an Eladrin teleportation machine and give her plenty of minions to kill and bounce around all over the place.

    Halfling Staff Wizard . . . impossible?

I have an even better houserule than making smaller damage staves for halflings and other small creatures. I ignore the weapon restrictions entirely. Done. The benefits of being small are an exceedingly short (ha!) list. You can move through a Large creature's space... woo. :erm: If you...

    What are Tieflings good at?

WHy Tieflings are good: some of this has been said Tieflings spend no points for Spell Focus Hellfire Blood: A Fey or Star pact Warlock can get a Fire or Fear power at every level except 9, 13, & 17 and that can be fixed by multi-classing with Spellscar or Wizard since you can have an 18 Cha...

Making a Samurai: AC and Armor problem

The bathrobe samurai doesn't use a fullblade even if he calls it a no-dachi. He uses a bastard sword in both hands, sometimes he uses it in one so he can grab mooks. However D&D as built doesn't envision people not wearing armor so bathrobe samurai isn't well supported by the rules. Now if...

    Immediate Interrupts: Rule vs Etiquette?

I always call out he rolls 22 vs AC or similar. 1 I dont want to track all their Defenses 2 If they have a power that can change their Defense (Shield, Staff) then they actually get to make that decision of use it now or save it for later in case the mob throws a meaner attack their way.

Is there actually a disarm power?

I heartily approve of the party containing a Paladin or Warlock who has high Intimidate to allow another way for Bloodied monsters to just go away. Fights take long enough as is, no reason to take away ways to shorten them in my game. I even gave the Warlock a +intimidate item.

    Longsword Finesse bummer

Rapier I think would still be better. The Rapier Rogue spends a feat for: Rapier prof Nimble Blade Weapon Focus The Eladrin with Longsword spends a feat for: Longsword Finesse Eladrin Soldier Heavy Blade Opportunity So he's down 1 to hit and 3.5 avg damage on sneak attacks at heroic, at...

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

If you simply scaled the mobs down by subtracting their levels from their defenses you would come up across the 'go more than 5 and it doesnt work anymore' effect. If you factored the monsters AC the same way you factor a PC's Orcus would have a level-independent AC of: 10 base +7 Int bonus +11...

Help me reduce the No. of rounds/encounter

When I want fights to be faster i so the following: Bloodied monsters run for it. Artillery monsters (and artillerish controllers) that aren't Elite or Solo become Minions once the rest of the monsters are gone, so they drop from the next hit without having to bother with 6 people wailing on 1...
