Under Construction, Feedback Welcome Yours, Mine and Ours The Siege continues...as you stand upon the east battlement watching the sun rise the Garrison Commander comes rushing up. "A wizard in the city just finished a Scrying Ritual. It almost killed him, but he saw the enemy tunnelling under...

Looking at it again, I don't think I could do better.

Stalker0's Alternate Core Skill Challenge System: FINAL VERSION 1.8!

The text is a little unclear in some points, but Stalker0 has done the really hard work(math). I am trying use my limited English skills to whip up some better documentation for him to approve but in the meantime read the excellent PDF that IvanH0 attached to his post here...

Comments and dislikes of lore and other changes in the 4th ed MM.

Good I'd hate to laugh at you when I could laugh with you!

Comments and dislikes of lore and other changes in the 4th ed MM.

Emphasis mine... Yeah it's crazy of WotC to expect people to use a dungeon as a setting for Dungeons and Dragons. I hope your post was as funny o you as it was to me. Other than that I am right with you wanting aquatic races/monsters. But I'm not terribly bummed out about any fluff-related stuff.

Stalker0's Alternate Core Skill Challenge System: FINAL VERSION 1.8!

Just a quick question. So the "Tags" are gone right? Guiding Light and Bold Recovery should be useable on every check? Simplifies things. Also, I think the "problem" of a weak skill user is really a problem of Challenge design. I think a challenge needs as many Allowed skills as possible...

A discussion of Keith Baker's post regarding the Skill Challenge system

He said in his playtests that he saw a ~50% success rate. This would be at the lower end of my personal goal, but the house rules he has added may skew he results. I would like to see the challenges he ran at a minimum.

    Skill Challenges in Heathen (Dungeon)

I read through the skill challenges and they do seem like good ideas. I will say this...WotC really needs to give us DMs some more guidelines about Skill Challenges. Seeing the DCs vary like that hardly gives me confidence using the system. It's all fine to say that it was intended by the...

A Generic 4E Opinion Thread: Hold the Mushrooms, Please

Well I hate anchovies on pizza, but fresh (and I mean Fresh) anchovies marinated in olive oil and lemon is the food of the gods. So give me a pizza with mushrooms and lots of meat, but leave the anchovies on the side

Sorry, I was feeling super-sarcastic last night. I really think you are overthinking it, though. My advice would be to write up the villagers, NPCs, etc that you think your players might want to fight as tough-ish monsters for them. It is pretty easy to remove a level or minionize them if you...

Stalker0's Alternate Core Skill Challenge System: FINAL VERSION 1.8!

I don't mind and understand that time is a factor. I have some of the same issues.I just didn't want us to be working against each other. And I really want feedback. To that end I will start another thread for documentation so this one doesn't become (more) cluttered.

Ok I'm done...and don't think this can go too much further without the word verissimilitude cropping up. BTW- There are not that many skills and Knowledge (anything) isn't there. Just use INT and be done.

    My Brainfart

Are you serious about needing stats for Leather Aprons, and Horseshoes? Did 3rd edition (core books) give those? Edit - Oh and Oh! The PHB gives info about improvised weapons. That should answer your last question.

    My Brainfart

Oh yeah you can do that in 4e. I am too drunk and lazy to lay it out for you, but am sure someone will. Hint - It is mostly the same as in 3e only there are no skill points and the skills you mention are only flavor. I'm a Monster...Raaaw!!

    More At-Wills?

    I think it is mostly a problem at lower levels: At Level 1 a character has 2/1/1/0 + 2 Basic Attacks For a total of 6 variations of attacks. Level 5 2/2/2/1 +2 = 9 variations Level 11 (Paragon) 2/4/3/3 +2 = 14 Level 15 2/4/3/4 +2 = 15 So I think by Paragon Tier it isn't a real problem...

    More At-Wills?

I am curious about At-Will powers. As it stands now Non-Human characters generally get access to 2 At-will powers at first level. There are no higher level At-wills (though they do scale). Of course they can be re-trained. The at-wills also seem really balanced with each other. Now with a...

Skill Challenge Bag o' Tricks (Using Stalker0's System)

Next Challenge Magma Mambo The pit below surges and bubbles with molten rock. Waves of heat fly upward and burn your face. It isn't very inviting down there, but there isn't a way around. You have to go through...that. There are a few stones here and there, maybe a group of bold, clever and...

How can we add non-combat crunch without mangling the rules?

I have two ideas that involve MUCH less rule-mangling than you propose. 1) Write up "non-damaging" powers and give them the flavor/power/etc of At-Will, Daily, and Encounter Powers. Swap them out 1 for 1 with another power. Very, Very Simple Example EXTREME PERSUASION ENCOUNTER Character...

Stalker0's Alternate Core Skill Challenge System: FINAL VERSION 1.8!

I am putting some sample skill challenges together for my own use. I am going to keep them in this thread http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=230819 Also, Magus Coeruleus, we seem to be working toward the same end (Documentation). Would you prefer to collaborate? My personal preference...
