D&D General When do you overrule RAW?

I don't think it was necessarily a doomed venture, if she could of come up with some reason to stop it that made some sense within the fiction, rather than just the rules, I think he would have allowed it. But that does penalise unimaginative players.

D&D General When do you overrule RAW?

Yeah if you are going to do that then you need to do the same for magic users.

    Are Superhero films dying?

It's a DC Superhero movie not about Batman, with a star that has allegations about grooming minors of course is going to bomb. It managed $267 mil worldwide. Blue Beetle did even worse $121.5 million worldwide. I don't know exactly why but DC superhero movies don't tend to get the same audience...

D&D 5E (2024) The Cleric should be retired

Yeah they fixed the Cleric in 2nd Edition with Skills and Powers made them much more interesting and varied. Would love to see something similar for 5th.

D&D General Nolzur creates inclusive miniatures, people can't handle it.

Which was my point about it having to be a wheelchair and not something too fanciful, otherwise it isn't really representation. It's why they introduced a chair option in Cyberpunk Red, despite the fact cybernetic limbs were invented in the game specifically to remove disabilities. It's not...

D&D General Nolzur creates inclusive miniatures, people can't handle it.

I think the issue is for some folks the chair itself is part how they see themselves so if you go magical like, a hover/spider chair then it isn't how they see themselves represented. Personally I find the idea of self insert characters weird anyway. The reason I roleplay is to play someone...

    Top ten Non-US tv shows

I have the VHS... lol would have to find a player somewhere to watch it.

    Top ten Non-US tv shows

I think there are some really good series that only got one season in the UK (which is usually six or so episodes). Some you might be able to find streaming, I'm listing ones that are good inspiration for RPGs. Some examples Ultraviolet (1998) - Cop discovered a government backed vampire...

Yeah but elves are skinny humans with pointy ears.

D&D General Nolzur creates inclusive miniatures, people can't handle it.

Who spends most of his time in a school, or paved areas until he gets his flying chair. Which stops being a wheelchair and becomes a levitation device which isn't generally accepted as representation of a wheelchair, more a magic fix. But some folks might be okay with it. Oooh disability being...

D&D General Nolzur creates inclusive miniatures, people can't handle it.

Well that's because the only case I've seen of someone wanting to use any of these rules is an able bodied person wanting to use the spider chair in Cyberpunk Red, and I suspect most likely for the unbalanced reasons I've mentioned.

D&D General Nolzur creates inclusive miniatures, people can't handle it.

Which is kind of my point, I think presenting these rules they aren't going to be suitable for everyone but they can make a useful starting point for a discussion between the GM and player at a table where that sort representation matters to that player. Exactly a one size fits all response...

No my lesson from that is one can, with the right support (which may or may not be a magic wheelchair), sorry if that wasn't clear.

D&D General Nolzur creates inclusive miniatures, people can't handle it.

I think if you want a better idea of a wheelchair user "off road" this BBC video about a nature program researcher who uses a wheelchair is better. Which shows generally he needs an assistant (sometimes two), specialist equipment, and occasionally there are still places where it just isn't...

Yes in real life people do amazing things but they are still on smooth ramps, so ideal conditions for wheels, unlike the typical adventuring locations.

D&D General Nolzur creates inclusive miniatures, people can't handle it.

Which is unfortunate, because when fantasy wheelchairs are introduced there are often real issues with verisimilitude and game balance. Wheelchairs are introduced to be inclusive, so folks in wheelchairs can have a self insert type character into the fantasy setting, which is clearly a good...

    D&D 5E (2024) Elves without racism [+]

True but a culture-wide animosity is pretty common and species and culture have been pretty much the same thing in D&D. Could easily come from your character's culture. If you are going to have cultures in the PHB why not also have negative aspects of those cultures?

    D&D 5E (2024) Elves without racism [+]

Biologically it makes sense, but I thought the whole point of these "Mytrals" was to get away from biology and make abilities come from the culture, not their biology?
