D&D 5E (2014) Justin Alexander's review of Shattered Obelisk is pretty scathing

What's your field? (Personally curious). However, I believe the point Retreater was making was that expertise in a given field weights how they receive that person's opinion. So you being a scientist is irrelevant to the topic under discussion (unless your field is game design).

D&D 5E (2014) Justin Alexander's review of Shattered Obelisk is pretty scathing

That's not the point of a review. I'm not accepting Alexander's always right; I'm using his commentary to help allocate scarce resources. Of course his review is subjective. That fact is baked in, and I don't think a reviewer should have to tell people that their review is just one comment (I...

D&D 5E (2014) Justin Alexander's review of Shattered Obelisk is pretty scathing

Thirded? Fourthed? Not sure, but interested. As far as the writers are concerned, I'm getting really concerned about Amanda Harmon's work. She did some really good stuff on Starfinder, from what I hear, and I gave her a break on Strixhaven, given that she had just come over, but this is...

That's interesting and clarifies my confusion. Thanks!

OK, but they keyed that room, right? And there's apparently a few things going on inside? Why not throw in a map of that room?

I would also ask why they excluded a map of the arena boss fight? Is there just nothing going on in this room?

D&D 5E (2014) Justin Alexander's review of Shattered Obelisk is pretty scathing

I don't think I've ever found Alexander pompous, uptight, or vitriolic. I've usually seen exceptionally good critiques and some genuinely revelatory posts. So I'm a little confused here. Still, it saved me some money and I'm appreciative of the critique.

Grim Hollow Player's Guide - 3rd Party Review

Cleric: Eldritch Domain: Have you ever wanted to be the personal handmaiden of a dire Cthulhu-type entity from beyond the stars, acting to usher in their unknowable reign, and not be a warlock? Well, here you go! Dread Cthulhu will see you now... This subclass leans heavily on a random d8...

    D&D 5E (2014) Strategic-Level Fog of War Map Tools

Ah, that's the rub. See, Owlbear Rodeo is great and I love it for tactical gaming. But I'm talking about having a regional map out there that I can link my players to, and every week when they explore around, I can reveal more of the regional map.

    D&D 5E (2014) Strategic-Level Fog of War Map Tools

Hey guys, I'm planning on running some campaigns that require the PCs to explore various areas to gain a sense of control of the situation. What I need to know is: are there map tools I can share with my players that I can reveal the fog of war at a strategic / operational level? So I can...

Grim Hollow Player's Guide - 3rd Party Review

Alright friends, let's start breaking down these subclasses! Each core class gets two subclasses in this book (note that "core classes" excludes artificier, although there is a DM's Guild supplement for those), and we start with the barbarian. Barbarian: Path of the Fractured: The fluff on...

Grim Hollow Player's Guide - 3rd Party Review

Alright, y'all! Sparky's back with a brand-new groove, which looks strikingly similar to several other grooves I've done recently. I promised everyone that I'd take a look at the Grim Hollow Player's Guide from Ghostfire Gaming. So I rolled up my sleeves, parted with some cash, and snagged a...

D&D General Help! My Players Want To Meet Primus...

There's nothing for them to derail, as there are no rails. The other problem here is that the crazy sewer people are trying to summon an Elder Evil (Kyuss) through the portal, so it seems eminently reasonable that Primus would have a hand in wanting that portal closed. The crazy sewer people are...

Using Old School Adventures in 5E - The Black Wyrm of Brandonsford

Appendix: Mechanical Conversions Alright, everybody. I'm dragging backside, but dammit, I'm here to finish this thing off. This post is going to be a little shorter, but that's OK because it's an appendix! So there's typically a conversation that happens when a 5E DM looks at OSR-style...

This look interesting, though the railroady bits leave me cold.
