    Missing Deities?

Rao and Pholtus both are in Dragon 294 along with Tharizdun and Iuz. Trithereon is one of my favorite gods too, and he's unique enough to make it difficult to grep a god from one of the other pantheons. He would make a good subject for playing around with making a god though..... The D&D...

    Missing Deities?

You could probably grep most of the Celtic gods off of the Norse gods and adapt them to suit; there is a lot of overlap/cultural sharing between the 2 mythologies.

Deities and Demigods ~ Thank You God!

EXACTLY!!!!!!! Im glad to see Im not the only one who remembers this. Obviously when they made 3e and decided to crib some of the Greyhawk gods for the default cosmology some bright light said 'Huzzah! We need a god for Paladins!' (OK, maybe the Huzzah is gratuitous, but not completely...

    Deities & Demigods continued

Doh...yeah he had the belt in the mythology too; heck, even the Marvel Comics Thor trotted out the belt a few times. That still begs the question: how did he get a 46 Strength. As an aside, Thor's write up mentions that he is the strongest of the Asgardian gods, and mentions his son Magni in...

    Deities & Demigods continued

I havent had time to read thru everyones posts on this subject, so forgive me if Im kicking a dead horse... Ive been reading thru the book topically, rather than attacking it cover to cover. Ive basically been looking at individual gods that catch my attention and then try to decipher all of...

    Rope of Entanglement Question

BUMP. Im hoping that Caliban or some other god-like guru of rules interpretations will weigh in on this.

    Gods and Avatars

The god must have the Avatar Salient Ability (not all do). An Avatar takes 1 year to form, and its divine rank is equal to 1/2 the deities divine rank rounded down. The deity can have a number of Avatars determied by thier god status; Lesser = 5, Intermediate = 10, and Greater =20; Demi-Gods...

    Rope of Entanglement Question

Thanx for responding. 1) The item description in no way mentions pinning. 2) The very act of grappling causes unarmed damage. Wisdom and Intelligence play no part in determining grapping failure or success or in the calculation of unarmed damage or any other form of damage.

    Rope of Entanglement Question

Yes, but it also specifically states that it makes a grapple attack and there is an entire chunk of rules on grappling. Thus, what it could do besides entangle is grapple. This looks real similar to Entangle, and it uses a ranged touch attack instead of grapple check. It cant kill them at...

[OT] Hero System Fifth Ed Review

Yes to all the above. All of the above depend on the players, thier characters, the GM, and his NPCs in any given group. Battle, 15 characters, <1hr? Depends on the characters, the players, the GM, and the circumstances of the battle. Wizard <4 pgs? Easily. Depends on the Wizard Learn to...

[OT] Hero System Fifth Ed Review

I converted AD&D to 4th Edition HERO System (www.nestofthorns.com) years ago and ran it for about 2 years. It was much more fun, but also required much more work from me as the GM. Players that got past the learning curve LOVED it. Not all players got past that curve. The combat system is MUCH...

[OT] Hero System Fifth Ed Review

Re: Re: Re: [OT] Hero System Fifth Ed Review Michael Surbrook did the Surbrook's Stuff column in Haymaker! The Hero System Fan Ezine. I myself did the Nest of Thorns column, so I have several issues with his material in it.

    Rope of Entanglement Question

This seems to be a very strange kludge; Im not sure that makes sense. Combining Grappling with the actual Entangled game state causes other problems. For example, the actual Entangle spell sets the DC to escape it or break it at a flat unopposed DC 20 Strength or Escape Artist check. However...

    Is my NPC still invisible?

While dramatic, such a move is not tactically sound with mere Invisibility. Technically, you could call the sword on the shoulder bit a touch attack. However, if the sword on the shoulder bit didnt fire off any touch attacks, charges, or otherwise harm the target, and not give the invisible...

    Rope of Entanglement Question

As an aside, Skip Williams aka The Sage stated in on of the Sage advice columns that you must make a succesful grapple check vs an opponent for them to be 'grappled'. Thus, if an opponent succesfully makes a grapple check against you, you are grappled but they are not until you make a grapple...

    Rope of Entanglement Question

Thanx for your response, but I have a few problems with your take: Before you can use the pin option you first have to initiate a grapple. If you successfully initiate a grapple, you cause damage based on your size (1d3 for medium, 1d4 for large) + your Strength modifier. To pin an opponent you...

    Whirlwind attack -- Quick Question

Yes, you reach the break even point in several cases: When facing multiple opponents that take 1.5-2 normal hits to drop but are easy to hit IF you are also using Power Attack When facing multiple opponents that take multiple hits AND you cant hit with your second attack at least 75% of the...

    Rope of Entanglement Question

In the Rope of Entanglement description in the DMG, the Rope is stated to be Large and to have Strength of 22. Based on the fact that it makes a grapple check to entangle a victim, I recently adjudicated that if it successfully grappled an opponent it inflicts 1d4 + 6 points of unarmed damage...

Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil

I too am a Greyhawker with a long running (12+ years) persisted campaign. I can agree with a lot of what Aelfric is saying; there are elements of Return ttToEE that dont jive well or at all with either the original Temple or the setting. Fortunately, Ive always used Tharizdun as a major baddy...
