    Ditching traditional fantasy conventions?

I make a point of ditching at least one of the standard conventions in each of my campaigns. This gives the campaign its unique hook that the players will remember it by in future years. My last campaign was set on an archipelago in a tropical location. In my current game, humans are the...

    [kinda OT] Famous Gamers

Mike Myers of SNL and Austin Powers fame. Saw him interviewed on Bravo and he said that the SNL character Lothar of the Hill People was based on his D&D character from his youth.

    D&D 3.x Statistical Analysis of 3.5 Power-Attack: UNDERpowered?

My own mathematical test with Power Attack support the main poster for full round attacks. As the others have pointed, Power Attack has always been a situational feat. Power Attack is still very useful because it is the Gatekeeper to Cleave, Great Cleave and Improved Sunder which are all...

    Sagiro's Story Hour: writing style

I chose I don't like it....but I do think it was appopriate for the puzzle solving nature of the recent posts. It may be come very cumbersome to maintain, in general I'm willing to accept that you are summarizing events for the most part. I would like some additional dialogue so if there had...

    Does Fatigue affect your game?

I like the idea of long, extended combats requiring fatigue checks when they are done. I'd think this only applies in combat lasting for unusually long extended periods. I'm thinking 20+ rounds, but that's an off-the-cuff thought. Since raging barbarians fatigued after several rounds of...

How often do you use Toughness?

I have never seen a character in any game I play in take toughness. We did like the Giant's Toughness and Dragon's Toughness feats from Masters of the Wild.

    Does Fatigue affect your game?

Not nearly enough. One of the things I have on my DM list to do better is to more fully utilize conditions and environments in my gaming sessions. Places I think I could use fatigue more effectively are 1) Long Hard Days of Travel 2) Sleep Interruption 3) Situations where the characters...

    Are you a killer DM?

I picked 3-5, but I probably sit on the edge of 5/6 a year. I was DMing weekly but recently went bi-weekly, so that might slow the kill rate down a little ;). I tend to run encounters which challenge my players, so mistakes tend to be paid for in lives. Of the last three characters deaths in...

Point-buy or rolling? Your preference and why?

I use Organic Point Buy. I love the fact that it keeps characters relatively balanced but avoids the cookie-cutter aspect of straight point buy.

    Is your group multiclassing?

Fair amount of multiclassing. I tend to run campaigns with religion as a significant theme, so a lot of my players picked up some cleric/druid this time around... Bard 1/ Cleric 4 - Human Knowledge Cleric who wanted a jump start on the knowledge skills. Also very diplomatic, so used bard to...

3.5ed Players Handbook, Uhh what about the DMG?

Probably because there are a lot more players than DMs. Additionally, the PHB sets the tenor for most of the big rules questions in the game. The DMG tends to be more of a how-to guide while the PHB controls the central rule questions.

[3.5] Revision Spotlight - Druid class

Spontaneous summoning is nice, but Spot and Listen being added to class skills is a big boon as well. Like others, I'm very curious about the spell list.

Greyhawk: The Divinity Maneuver (A Menagerie of Perspectives, 8/9)

Mordecai here. One of my favorite Travis/Jerome/Barus moments was right after poor Rakahn died. We were trying to find out what happened to him and came across a bum in the alley who told us he had seen red-robed blond men near the body when he died. Of course, upon telling us this, he...
