    RPGs and mental health issues

Fantasy/D&D/Gaming is a form of escapism, so is substance abuse. It stands to reason that it caters to the same demography. We've had a few depressed players in our group (including one suicide), and more than one alcoholic. Bad times.

    Advice on "Arcane Rogue"

I think for what you want a dual-class rogue/warmage would work nice too.

How do you tell your GM and friend that he just isn't that good

Ok, situation scetch: We've been gaming as a group of good friends for over 10 years now. We've alternated as GMs between 3 of the 5 players (the other 2 were initially not interested). Everything went fine, we had some epic adventures. Last year the regular 3 GMs (incl. me) were all for...

    Halfling dragon slayer

you could go favoured soul 6 instead of cleric 6 and pick up 10 (gastric) acid resistance on the way.

    Gestalt Stacking Rules

this Gestalt-stuff is abacadabra to me. can anyone point me out where it's from, what it means? Nevermind, found this link: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/UA:Gestalt_Characters wild!

    Alignments anyone?

I actually do like to use the 9 alignments. For DM's sake, in some cases they are quite strict (Demons v Devils = CE vs LE). In the case of handling player characters it's more malleable. Some actions are clearly chaotic/ lawful/good/evil. If a character of an opposite alignment performs...

D&D 3.x 3.5 fightertype (prestige) classes without armor?

ok, you guys persuaded me, Half-Hobgoblin is silly. I rewrote it to a Desert Orc (Unearthed Arcana). Final build at lvl 6 for those interested: Desert Orc Barbarian 1 / Fighter 4 / Dervish 1 Stats: STR 22 (18 +4 racial) DEX 14 (13 +1 from level 4) CON 12 INT 13 (15 -2 racial) WIS 10 (12 -2...

Bringing PCs together when starting a new campaign

I really enjoyed DM-ing the "Lost" approach: You are all prisoners on a slaver vessel, wearing nothing but rags and chains. A storm hits, the ship sinks, you are the lone survivers with no idea where you are.

D&D 3.x 3.5 fightertype (prestige) classes without armor?

It is pretty sweet, I think it is slightly more powerful than average but not enough to warrant a level adjustment. Copy/pasted it because the link doesn't seem to work properly: Half-Hobgoblin Characters Half-hobgoblin characters possess the following racial traits. +2 Constitution...

D&D 3.x 3.5 fightertype (prestige) classes without armor?

Kind of a homebrew race. Our GM ok'd this version: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Half-Hobgoblin_(DnD_Creature)

D&D 3.x 3.5 fightertype (prestige) classes without armor?

    final build at lvl 6 for those interested: Half-Hobgoblin Barbarian 1 / Fighter 4 / Dervish 1 Stats: STR 18 DEX 16 (15 +1 from level 4) CON 14 (12 +2 racial) INT 13 WIS 12 CHA 11 Feats: * Weapon Focus (Scimitar) * Weapon Spec (Scimitar) * Power Crit (Scimitar) * Dodge * Mobility * Combat...

D&D 3.x 3.5 fightertype (prestige) classes without armor?

This picture is sort of the inspiration for the character. Kudos for those who recognize it: The Dervish suggestion is good, thanks!

D&D 3.x 3.5 fightertype (prestige) classes without armor?

the point is kind of moot with the stats rolled. I have nothing to spare for wisdom, so going monk won't help a bit. I think I'll make him a hobgoblin barbarian/fighter with an interesting feat selection.

D&D 3.x 3.5 fightertype (prestige) classes without armor?

ok, the basic characteridea is a bald bold big warlord wielding a single scimitar with no armour or shield. the idea of going for a few levels of monk and switching to barbarian/fighter afterwards sounds interesting. I was thinking going for human, half-orc, hobgoblin or orc. none of the...

D&D 3.x 3.5 fightertype (prestige) classes without armor?

D&D 3.5 e I was thinking about making a barechested barbariantype fighter, but I find the barbarianclass beyond level 4-ish quite boring. Any suggestion for prestige classes/ base classes which work wel for unarmored front-line fighters? I guess bracers of armour will be in order for this...

Why do they do that? PCs and their intentions...

I agree that improv is the fun part of GM-ing. Once one of our GMs thought of a dungeon where the ancient tapestries and carpets were the bulk of the treasure. It was also dark, what did we do? toss in a lit torch. goodbye treasure, hello smoke! made the following encounter extra interesting...

How Were AoOs / OAs Explained to You?

I learned the AoO rules from the 3.5 PhB, never had any problem with 'em. Sounds very clear and logical to me. If you perform an action within melee range of an enemy, without being able to defend yourself (for whatever reason), that enemy can clobber you.

    Handling Cheating

We've got one of those players who we suspected of some minor fudging. He always seems to have one spell extra, or just the right spell memorised at the right time or just one charge more in his wand of fireballs than before. In the case of the wand (I think the DM should keep track of charged...
