Is the barbarian too front loaded?

I find it's balanced because it's such a vivid class that people would only take it when it works thematically with the rest of the character. It may provide a nice boon to a Rogue but roleplaying-wise it doesn't fit with if the character was a pickpocket from the streets of a major city. That...

How do you wear a third magic ring?

There was also a PrC that granted it. I think it was a 3rd party sourcebook but I can't remember. Either way, that Hand of Glory or Eberron feat are the easier way to go.

    "It's a joke name, sir."

I actually went to high school with a Phil McKracken! I agree with the people who say that goofy names ruin what would otherwise be a serious game. But I was unintentionally guilty of it once. My friends and I were at a convention and stopped by the games hall to watch over a Star Wars game...

Mage Build Help - The Many Faces of Kyvia

That's true. I looked over Master Specialist and I would say it's probably more effective overall than the Geometer. (The other thing the Geometer has that I forgot to mention is that the scribed spells that count as Verbal and Material components let the spell be cast at +1 level at Geometer 4.)

Mage Build Help - The Many Faces of Kyvia

Off of the top of my head it has: full spell progression, it is 5 level, it lets you make special scroll like things that are substituted for Verbal and Material components (for 25 gp/spell level + cost of Material components if more than 1 gp), each spell only takes up one page in a spellbook...

    "Unarmed attacks treated as..." options

    Ah, gotcha. Thanks!

Mage Build Help - The Many Faces of Kyvia

I'm not very adept at making mages, but I thought an Abjurist combined with the Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil and Geometer would be pretty neat.

    "Unarmed attacks treated as..." options

Thanks for the insight! Sanctify Martial Strike says: "Damage done by chosen weapon is considered ‘Good’ for the purposes of overcoming Damage Reduction." I can never get it straight, does that mean this feat can be applied to an unarmed attack or is this one of those blurry/differing opinion...

    Superstitious rituals

    Heh, only too well!

    "Unarmed attacks treated as..." options

With the exception of taking levels of the Monk class, what other options (feats, magic items, etc.) are available to have a fighter's unarmed attacks treated as X for overcoming damage reduction (similarly to the Monk's "ki strike")? Thanks!

    Superstitious rituals

(Hopefully this isn't a rehashing of a previous post...) I just read an amusing article on WotC's site about the different rituals people have to make luck swing their way (or stick with them) during roleplaying sessions. What are some interesting ways you all keep the dice rolling well?

What's in a name (WotC Article)

One of my friends always names his half-orcs after beers. His first character in our group was a barbarian named Urquell! Another friend always names his Star Wars characters after cars. Often times I like to use mythological names or variations on those names for fantasy characters. For...

    Other Dragoncraft Items?

I'll look more into it when I get home tonight.

Ghostwalk class in a non-Ghostwalk game

I think it might come from the incorporeal-ness of the characters. I can't remember how it goes off of the top of my head, but I think they can go between ethereal and non-ethereal sort of easily. I would hazard that they would work fine but often I miss game breaking ability until seeing it...

    Does getting treasure equal fun?

I'm right there with you! That's why I love treasure (in the form of magic items). My 2nd ed. gaming group liked that feeling so much that we always let starting characters roll randomly for a magic item. It didn't matter if you ended up with a +2 military fork, a potion of fire breathing or...

    Other Dragoncraft Items?

There are some more in Dragon 332 but I can't remember if any of them were that great. Off of the top of my head, there were rules for making a ship, a helmet (that resisted sleep and paralysis) and claw weapons. I thought it might be a neat feat to take for a Dragon Shaman but none of the...

    What's right with D&D?

I like that for the most part it's a pretty simple, streamlined system (roll the d20 and add your modifier). I also love that combat is now very tactical which means you have to think more during combat, sort of like a chess game.

New "What sort of RPG player are you?" poll (this one by Charles Ryan)

Storyteller 100% Character Player 80% Tactician 50% Casual Gamer 35% Power Gamer 30% Weekend Warrior 10% Specialist 0% That seems pretty accurate, but I would have guessed Tactician and Power Gamer would have had higher percentages.

Misprounced Monsters; Or... What did you call that monster, again?

The pronunciation of "bulette" always made me think it was supposed to be pronounced as it would in French, but was misspelled (should have been "bulet").

Ghostwalk class in a non-Ghostwalk game

I've always thought it would be neat to play a ghost in a game but the ghost template seems too powerful to me. Do you think the Ghostwalk classes (the ghostly eloidon ones) are balanced when they're in a regular D&D game? If not, what should be edited to make them more balanced?
