That should at least help define the walls and such. This city set is one of the worst examples of the phenomenon that I've seen... my tiles are as bad as yours are, and maybe a lot of them were printed the same way.

Several of my tiles are the same way as in your picture. None of them are peeling yet as Windjammer reported. It's not a new issue, I have seen older tile sets that had the same speckled look, so I didn't make a big fuss about it... it happens when the printer is running a bit low on ink...

They are somewhat compatible in the sense that a game can have an Essentials character running alongside a PHB 4e character. They are not very compatible at all (yet) in the sense of an Essentials character taking PHB powers when that class suddenly doesn't even get powers.

I would say both of those issues have been improved lately. The classes are not all the same now, as the martial class don't have daily powers in Essentials and tend to rely upon basic attacks modified by stances (for fighters) or tricks (for rogues). Clerics now have domain spells too. As...

You might check out the artwork in Cthulhutech. It doesn't have superheroes per se, but it does have humans accessing unnatural powers to fight off the Mi-Go and other Lovecraftian horrors. The artwork in their books is very, very good, and should prove inspirational.

I use a minion's listed Con bonus as its DR (the listed Con bonus is actually the Con mod + 1/2 level). This is usually a small enough number that most decent hits will kill it outright, though some especially weak attacks may not.

I use 5 (ready to buy a 6th and 7th...) Plano Pro-latch storage boxes: They are cheap (about $5 each at Walmart), and you can change the size of each section, making a smaller compartment for your pile of kobolds and a larger one for your orc horde.

I play a Dwarven Druid, and we have an Evoker in the party as well. IMO the Evoker does more damage more often. I can do some things, some of which are almost as good, but in general, spell for spell a wizard wins.
