The Dragon 405 ToC and the Dungeon 196 ToC are up. Magic and fey are the themes this month. Lots of cool stuff. I hope you guys enjoy my swordmage article.
Well, it only took me 2 1/2 years and three pitches, but I finally was able to introduce one of my favorite monsters to 4e, the vampire rose. It has a special place in my heart since the first D&D adventure I ever owned was B3: Palace of the Silver Princess. I hope everyone enjoys it, as well...
This month's Kara-Tur themes ends with the release of the Samurai and Yakuza themes. I liked them, especially the samurai. I particularly love its iajiutsu power and its level 10 utility, riddle of steel. For some reason, I immediately wanted to make an arcane samurai using the swordmage...

Yep, if included every subrace that appeared in previous editions we'd also have the following: drake, weasel, panda, tiger, lynx, owl, hawk, frog, lizard, turtle, and octopus (there may be more, I'm listing these off the top of my head).
I did get to decide which ones to include; it's basically the 3e list minus the weasel. I ultimately settled on 12 subraces, but I can't remember why I excluded the weasel.
I think this is a good article. However, I wouldn't allow my players to use it if I didn't think they were mature enough to handle it; then again, I probably wouldn't game with them if they weren't.
Though they are not listed on the Dungeon ToC, Greg Bilsland said that this month's MM Updates were going to be Kara-Tur themed. Given that theme, I'm guessing that we'll be getting updates of the Oni and Naga, since the Rakshasa has already been done in the MV.
