D&D 5E (2014) What is your favorite subsystem?

This is good to hear. I really need to start remembering to use the travel rules. I'm always looking for systems to make travel more meaningful but I'm not sure why I've looked past the actual core rules.

D&D General Anyone ever run (or played in) a campaign with entire party (or almost) was a single class?

No, I haven't run a campaign like this but I absolutely LOVE the concept. I do have a bunch of campaign ideas ready to go though! I also really like the idea of an all-wizard or all-rogue urban campaign. All wizards would be fun if everyone was a student in a large wizard school...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone else suffers from setting paralysis?

I don't have setting paralysis, but I absolutely have a campaign bucket list. There are some many campaigns I want to run, or at least styles/genres I want to run campaigns in.

D&D 5E (2014) Sing to me of Box Sets, what cool things have been in them, what cool things do you want in them?

I have two, you know, for "backup". The Spelljammer boxed sets were also really nice. Unfortunately I didn't collect the Planescape stuff. Planescape had quite a few boxed sets.

D&D 5E (2014) Sing to me of Box Sets, what cool things have been in them, what cool things do you want in them?

Oh man I loved boxed sets from 1ed/2ed era. I sold a big chunk of my RPG collection kept all the boxed sets. I have a TON. Favorites: Greyhawk From the Ashes City of Greyhawk FR City of Splendors (Waterdeep) Night Below For me it's all about the maps. The Ad&d maps were so evocative and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is 5e Darkvision A Good Design?

I do as well. Also interesting that none of the core 4E races had darkvision. /offtopic - I've come around on my view of 4E. There is still a lot I don't like but I appreciate its design evolution a lot more than I did at the time. I could almost envision a "4.5E", but using the core of 5E and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is 5e Darkvision A Good Design?

I really dislike 5E darkvision for multiple reasons: it negates the darkness threat in the DM's toolbox it creates a massive disparity between the darkvision haves and have-nots too many races have it Vision needs to be split into low-light and darkvision in order to nerf darkvision and to...

D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew modification of Sharpshooter: reasonably within line?

Nope, right out of the gate. The smaller penalty to hit increases average damage at lower levels more than -5/+10. Basically the changes make it something you want to use on ever single attack. There have been numerous posts about this change on reddit. Edit: I agree that this changes smooths...

D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew modification of Sharpshooter: reasonably within line?

I wouldn't do this. The math makes this even better than the static -5/+10.

D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew modification of Sharpshooter: reasonably within line?

Another common change is make the +/- damage equal to your proficiency: -2/+2, -3/+3, etc.

    D&D 5E (2014) Nights Dark Terror (B10) 5E

One of my favorite adventures of all time! Still have an unpunched hardcopy!

D&D General Best "out of the box" ready to run adventures/modules?

Why would you want to do that?! The whole point of Ravenloft is that the players are trapped! Muah ha ha! Even better if you whisk them away without any warning and don't tell them what happened! :devilish:

D&D 5E (2014) Found this Homebrew and was wondering if it’s balanced.

Forget balance, the mechanics are clunky and disjointed: Cha to Int skills, swapping out saves, a super powerful Detect Thoughts ability, and then an insanely powerful damage buff. It's all over the place. I like the concept (warlock obsessed with knowledge) but I would change the concept so...

D&D 5E (2014) Which (Official) Adventures Have You Completed

Ran and finished LMoP, which I Ioved. Gearing up to run CoS for the same group.

D&D 5E (2014) Found DNDNext pdfs on my Google Drive. Wonder if I should keep?

Def keep them. They are interesting to read. Lots of good ideas in there, some of which I prefer over the PHB versions.

D&D 5E (2014) Favorite things in the playtest that never made it

Slight bump, but based on this thread and the recent sorcerer thread, I've been going through the Next playtest again. Can't believe I missed this but in the final version of the playtest (and from what I can tell, ALL of the playtest packets), Sneak Attack did not require a finesse or ranged...

    D&D 5E (2014) Professions in 5e

3E, 4E, and Pathfinder did exactly that. And now 5E is the most popular edition of D&D EVAR. Funny how that worked out.

D&D 5E (2014) Point Buy system for weapon proficiency or something.

If the feat system was more granular, it would support a concept like this.

    D&D 5E (2014) Tired of doing WotC's job

@dnd4vr has very good design sense and I get where he's coming from. While I don't view the instances he cited in the initial post as problems, I understand the sentiment. It was a clear design choice to back away from the over-design and system minutiae of 4E and Pathfinder, and I largely...

D&D 5E (2014) Has anyone made feats into tiers?

If you are going to invest this amount of work, it is better spent rebuilding the feat system as a whole. Here's the system I've been working on: All feats are rebalanced to be "half" feats ASIs removed from all feats ASI +1 becomes its own feat Feats granted at levels 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12...
