How do you map? (DMing advice needed)

I hate mapping as a player, and I absolutely can't stand having players map when I GM -- except for very rare, cartographically gifted folks, it's always waaaaay more trouble than it's worth (at least in my experience). For locations I expect the party to visit more than once, I draw my maps on...

using props to track initiative - an idea

I made a variant of the Improved Initiative sheet (if anyone remembers that -- short-lived, but a very cool product): essentially an Excel spreadsheet with several rows of numbers. The box under every other number is shaded (to make it easier to parse), and the whole shebang is sturdily...

    Search!!!

That notice must only be there if you're not a Community Supporter -- I don't see it. If that's the case, though, it does seem like it would address the question pretty well. ;)

This is such a common question, perhaps it should be a sticky announcement in the Meta forum. Just a thought. :)

    Your original die

My first poly dice came out of the Lords of Creation boxed set, from Avalon Hill: a hideous purple d10, and a hideous green d20, both uninked. I used paint for minis to ink them by hand and then -- bad idea! -- sprayed them with matte sealant. I still have them, and they still look terrible. ;)...

    Airship questions (Eberron and otherwise)

From the blurb, that sounds like it might be pretty handy, and I never would have noticed that one on my own! Ghostwind, some of the deck plans on Bastion's site are fairly cool -- thank you.

    Airship questions (Eberron and otherwise)

I had completely forgotten about these, and I have them both. Having taken a look through them, it seems like they'll work for at least a little while -- until the PCs are higher in level, and aerial combat becomes more likely. ;) I also remembered that there's an Eberron airship deck plan in...

    Airship questions (Eberron and otherwise)

Does anyone know if rules covering Eberron's airships -- including, say, aerial combat, construction guidelines, and deck plans -- are forthcoming? I know that there are at least two existing supplements on airships in D&D: Aerial Adventure Guide: Sky Captain's Handbook (From Goodman Games) and...

What OTHER game magazines do you read? (besides Dragon or Dungeon)

I wrote an article called "Arcane Wizardry" for The Scroll when I was thirteen, and I used to talk to the guy who published it on the phone fairly regularly back then. I can't remember his name, or which issue my article came out in, but I still have a complete run of The Scroll. ;) Edit...

Eberron game looking for a player in Salt Lake City

(This is about to fall off the front page, so I'll give it a bump.) This Eberron campaign is still about 2-3 weeks away, and the theme has been decided: airship privateers! If you're interested, I'd love to hear from you. :)

    The Screen

Always. Heck, I paperclip two four-panel screens together to make a five-panel wall. ;) All combat rolls are in the open, along with most other rolls -- I like having a place to keep notes, monster counters, etc.

More Charisma Than a Roomful of Nymphs (finished, link to full SH in last post)

Wow -- I had no idea there was still interest in this story hour! I ended the actual campaign yesterday (ironically enough), and just finished re-tooling my website to reflect that change. What I was doing to create the SH posts was taking my already-written campaign journals for each session...

E.N. Publishing also has a line called E.N. Guilds, with each PDF focusing on a different guild. The Banking Guild and Merchant Guild are out now, and more are on the way. http://www.rpgnow.com/default.php?manufacturers_id=313&&thumbskip=1

    Dragon Mech

I bought the core book on a whim when it first came out, and devoured it on a series of plane flights shortly thereafter. It's one of the most engaging, best-written, well-illustrated and just downright enjoyable setting books I've ever read. Whenever DragonMech comes up on the boards, I pitch...

    Learn something new.

When someone asks if you want to do something, and you can't do it (for one reason or another), the natural instinct is to say, "I'd love to come to your party, but I have to work late that night." Apparently, what people remember is the part that comes after the "but" -- that they asked you...

Why D&D is slowly cutting its own throat.

Perhaps they can be more like "loss leaders" in the retail industry: some portion of 20% of the gaming population (the DMs) buys a memorable module, and their groups play through that module. This may not make that much money, but it gives those groups a common point of reference -- and an...

Cutting and Sorting Dragon Magazines; Tips?

Heck, don't cut them up at all -- just use this site to find what you need: http://www.aeolia.net/dragondex/ Supplemented with a small personal reference list (as suggested above), this sounds vastly preferable to cutting up magazines! ;)

    What are you listening to?

Recent music: Hotel, by Moby (mainly the ambient disc -- great for late car rides home) With Teeth, NIN Ten, Pearl Jam Audioslave, Audioslave The last two spend a lot of time in my car stereo. ;) As for music during D&D games, I don't play any in the background. I have been considering it...

How many CDs do you own?

Right around 100, which covers pretty much everything I've bought since high school (10+ years ago). Slanted towards rock and industrial, but there's a wide range of stuff in my binder.
