Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules"

On the subject of skills, I can accept that Diplomacy could find a home with the sorcerer if the flavor text is embraced, but then Intimidate starts to make less and less sense to me, as the two skills are in direct social opposition to each other. I know the Intimidate skill is really cool and...

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules"

Knight_ Errant and Buttercup. I think we can safely assume that no flame war is forthcoming. That said, I am not without a rebuttal. ---- I actually did base my arguement on game mechanics. You just failed to quote that part of it. Here it is again, now in entirety. "Virtually every other...

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules"

Nonsense. Virtually every other spellcasting class has the potential to cast every spell on their list. What they aren't casting now, they are studying for later. That foreknowledge is what allows them to spell trigger magic items based on spells from their respective lists. In the case of...

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules"

Well, I appreciate your insight. I tried sending you an invitation to my web site via E-mail, but you have disabled it on these boards. If you are at all interested in taking a look and visiting the message boards, just click "The Waking Lands" link in my signature. I consider good feedback a...

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules"

I just noticed that in addition to using the aura of sorcerers from my web site, you have also picked up the restricted Spell Trigger list. This is a good rule for any alternative sorcerer to my way of thinking. Sorcerers can only ever know a "finite" number of spells, defined by their Spells...

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules"

Knight_Errant. I just wanted to say that it's been a long time since anybody has actually read my mind. Thanks for "getting it".

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules"

Howdy Buttercup. As I said to Khaalis, if you are not going to use spell components for sorcerers, then none of the spellcasters should be bound to them (and everybody can cast from their repetoire as spell-like abilities). If you are cool with that, then game balanced is maintained.

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules"

I never said it couldn't be mutable. I am saying that if mutability is taken to extremes, the flavor of Dungeons and Dragons is oftentimes lost. Of course not. If you look at the aforementioned monk on the web site link I sent you, I have done exactly that. However, while some abilities are...

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules"

It was ... so you're welcome. :D I couldn't agree more. The first class I revised when 3.0 came out was the monk. It drove me mad that each monk who ascended the level ladder ended up exactly the same. Version 3.5 tried to fix this, but didn't go far enough in my opinion. Still, a balance has...

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules"

Khaalis. You asked for constructive feedback earlier, so I will do my best. First of all, the level of cooperation on this thread is inspiring. The shear volume of writing you have collectively produced is mind-numbing (to say the least). But I think everybody here already knows that, so I...

    Armor As Damage Reduction

Howdy Azure Trance. Sorry I didn't notice your thread until just now, but I see that feydras (a one-man press gang) got to it first. Thanks again feydras. :D If you haven't already Azure, check out the link he provided. The more monkies the merrier. :p

Armor as Damage Reduction (how to make it work for you)

Scott. Sound like you are as busy as me. Please swing by the web site and tell me what you think (when you get a chance). ----- Hello Kavon. I'm kind of in a rush right now, but I'd love to explore this idea more thoroughly on my message boards (as I check those more often). Here's a more...

Armor as Damage Reduction (how to make it work for you)

Hey Scott! Long time to no hear. Everybody, Scott and I originally collaberated on the occult slayer together. We were both paid equally for that prestige class, but Dragon forgot to mention Scott's name in the occult slayer credits for some reason. So how have you been Scott? You know what...

Armor as Damage Reduction (how to make it work for you)

Hello again feydras! Thanks for the good press. Just so people know what you're talking about, here are two new links that more directly steer people to the variant combat system. This first link is to the variant combat system rules: Click here. And this second link is to an "example of...

Armor as Damage Reduction (how to make it work for you)

Howdy all. For those of you have contacted me to be notified about my web site, which includes a detailed look at the variant combat system, I have sent you e-mails. For those of you who are interested in taking a comprehensive gander at the variant combat system, click here to visit my...

Armor as Damage Reduction (how to make it work for you)

Forgive me ciaran00, but I'm not sure I understand your meaning. If you're asking me if I can imagine all of the details involved in an attack roll of 15 hitting an AC of 13, sure I can pretend. Any dungeon master worth their salt can describe such an attack in detail. That's what storytelling...

Armor as Damage Reduction (how to make it work for you)

It would have been, but my new hosting provider just switched all their accounts to a new server and forget to include the MySQL databases. I'm currently elbow deep into getting the message boards up and running again. I'll keep everybody informed via this thread. *Sassen-frassen.* Kolja

Armor as Damage Reduction (how to make it work for you)

Honestly, the game play I have play tested with the variant combat system has been infinitely more enjoyable. If combat is taking longer, that time does not seem to be missed. Moreover, the difference between 1st edition and 3rd edition is huge. Characters are far more lethal for one, which...

Armor as Damage Reduction (how to make it work for you)

Well, a simple solution (developed later in on the this thread) has been found. Piercing weapons (of which a dagger is one) halve AC as damage reduction (rounded down). So far there is no perceptable slow down to game play. It's a painlessly easy calculation to make on the fly.

willpax. My web site should be going up soon. If you (or anybody else who is interested in the summation of the varaint combat rules) sends me an E-mail by clicking here, I will let you know when my web site has gone public. I hope that helps. Kolja
