Poll: Which Wizard 5th daily is best?

I'm tempted to say Fireball, since it's so iconic, but Web really does seem like it would have the most use.

    Looking for 4e game

Since the books come out next week, I figure I might as well start asking now so there's time to arrange things. I have Maptools and OpenRPG. I'm mainly looking for a game with story, and room for character development. While I am an experienced DM, I'm not very familiar with Maptools or...

Rituals take too long and creative casting is dead

Maybe if I'd actually played in 3e more, (and I probably would have played a wizard), I might see this as a problem too, but as a DM I think this is great. You can still be creative, in fact there's more room for creativity than before, you just can't use the same old tricks anymore, and it'll...

    4E Art Direction--Yay or Nay

I absolutely love the art design. Some pieces? Yeah, I don't like, but those are specifics, in general I love the way they're going. When I first looked at 3e, I couldn't get over how... punkish everything was. Spikes and tattoos everywhere. And this continued in almost every 3e product. I...

    Can't Wait Till The 6th!

Amazon's saying the 9th for me too, which is annoying. And I don't even get that good a deal, the Canadian Amazon selling for more than the US one. (Not really enough to make up for the extra shipping cost and such, though, or the delay if I switched now.) The closer it gets, the more...

Wasn't raise dead supposed to be harder at low levels?

I actually did a quest once in a situation like that in 3e, though it was a very high-level player. I didn't put a timer on it, but until the quest was completed if the character died again, he'd be returned as if Reincarnated. The quest ended up taking him the last few levels to 20 before he...

"If this, then that." Too complicated?

It's not like you end up having a lot of powers to keep track of, though. And only a few will likely be like that. So, I don't think it'll be that much trouble to keep track of, though I obviously have no experience with it to say for sure.

PrRC has been updated one last time. A note of thanks from Verys

Definitely fantastic work on that document. I wish I could've gotten a game together to try playing with it, (though I'm currently lacking a group). Still, it was fun reading, and making experimental characters with. Great work!

    Campaign Mapping Software?

Thanks! I'll definitely check that out.

    Campaign Mapping Software?

Is there any recommended software to use for mapping a campaign setting? I'm looking for something easy to use, and affordable on a very strict budget. (Free preferably.) At the very minimum I need something to help me put together a realistic-looking landmass. If need be I can use Photoshop...

    How does Grab work?

I don't have the books yet, so I have to ask, does grabbing give combat advantage to anybody else? Might be a good way for a fighter to help a nearby rogue. Also, do any of the classes (I'm guessing Fighter and maybe Paladin) have any powers that you can use when grabbing an opponent?

    Have you seen this monster?

I hope the rust monsters come back. I've had some fun with those over the years. (As just one example, and completely as a shock to me at the time, my group decided to seek them out. Not to kill, but to capture. Their nation was being invaded by a nation using iron war golems, (not classical...

    We're back to AD&D1

And there's rules there to judge social skills. However, a lot of that comes from creative use of social skills. There's no reason to have half the book dedicated to such situations as to have rules to judge such situations that don't get in the way of creativity have to be simple. There's no...

World setting, and your upcoming plans...

I've always used Forgotten Realms before, but now I'm actually thinking of using a homebrew setting. I started coming up with a setting a while ago originally to use in some short stories, but realized it worked as a D&D setting better. Since I have so many story ideas for the setting...

    We're back to AD&D1

I agree with some of the others. I used to be the kind of DM and player that preferred rules for every little thing, from haggling to sailing to riding a horse. I've long since abandoned that approach since it gets in the way of true roleplaying. You can't explore a story if you're busy rolling...

What I absolutely love about 4th edition thus far

Even in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, a fantasy touted my many as more 'down to earth', has very few characters who stayed normal. Started out? Sure. And while I can see emulating it as giving a reason to come up with level 0 rules, everybody does pretty amazing things before long.

    DDI play and RPGA

I certainly hope so! I've been wanting to play in RPGA games for a long while now. I've just never been able to get to a convention or to any other event. I'm a Forgotten Realms fan (and yes I actually like the spellplague), and ever since I've heard about Living Forgotten Realms I knew I...

    Asmor's dealbreaker list

But, that's the question that many 4e-haters have been asking those of us who like 4e since last August. Why not just stick with what you have? The OP answers this quite clearly. Though you could be right and this would fit general forums better. I imagine it'd draw even more hostility there...

    D&D Insider News

Me too. I've always said with software that I'd prefer a quality product that's late to a buggy release that's on time. It does mean I'm stuck, though, without a group to play D&D with when the new edition releases.

    Excerpt: skill challenges

This to me is a major issue with it too. I can see it being very difficult to intimidate a Duke surrounded by his guards, but I like to leave the option open. That's probably how I'll be running things.
