As other components become available, including client-based applications such as the D&D Character Builder and the D&D Game Table, they will be added to the mix. I’ll talk more about these digital offerings in my next column.

Ah, that explains why there's been no further demos. They're not going to be ready by the 6th.

Hopefully that next column will give a release timeframe. But I'm glad to hear they're not going to be forcing the things out at the same time as the books.

Me too. I've always said with software that I'd prefer a quality product that's late to a buggy release that's on time.

It does mean I'm stuck, though, without a group to play D&D with when the new edition releases.

Well, perhaps they're keeping some parts under the lid... but in any case: It means that their DDI plans weren't going as planned.

But on the other hand, it's not harming me - I'm getting free stuff. I'm pleased.

In a sense, yes. No flavor text though. And you can't really download anything from what I understand. But yes, you'll have access to all the mechanics and stuff which is cool. You might still need the PHB for stuff like the combat chapter that tells you how everything works. But if you need to look up a power or a feat or class description, I imagine that would be in there.
