    D&D 5E (2014) Mage Armor Criticisms

I'm not following you. If we use actual time to expire spells then players who go to the bathroom during the game affect the spell durations. I know that is not what you are implying. Durations should be measured in rounds and turns. If you are implying that one turn should be 6 seconds, fine...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mage Armor Criticisms

The Dungeon Master and the Player never wants to track 1 hour of Mage Armor. Giving spells time limitations like this is frustrating. Just give spells an encounter duration not a 15 minute or 1 hour duration. Mage Armor is a O level spell so it is At-Will according to the rules. And just assume...

D&D 5E (2014) Remove stat bonus from damage

O.k. I don't like the idea. Increased expertise dice increases as the characters level-up. That means that all bonuses to damage would only be a result of higher levels. Instead, because we are awarded with bonuses to ability as we level-up, the ability score itself includes a level bonus to...

D&D 5E (2014) Remove stat bonus from damage

They are both essential. But because there are ability increases when characters level-up, that means that level bonuses are baked into the ability bonuses. It does mean that fighters will be favoring increases to strength, but that is as it should be.

D&D 5E (2014) Remove stat bonus from damage

Are you implying there would be no bonuses to damage? That would be a mistake.

D&D 5E (2014) Guidelines For Creating Spells and Prayers

What are your guidelines? Summarized If a caster has half the hit points and uses weapons that do half the damage as martial classes, dedicated caster spells should do more damage than martial attacks+maneuvers. 1 target spells should be at-will. Area spells and charms should be per encounter...

    D&D 5E (2014) WOTC I Love Skills and Backgrounds

Since there is only 1 trait listed for 1 background, why do we even need to call it anything? Just make it part of the description of the background. We already use the word 'trait' for monster traits.

    D&D 5E (2014) WOTC I Love Skills and Backgrounds

I like all of your ideas but I would like to revise them a little and see what you think. We would see a description of each skill in the Player's Handbook like this. Keep all the progressions for skills at +3 or -3 so they are easy to remember. The skill titles would be like this. You earn...

    Nope. Just looking for ideas.

    Expertise Dice

Every spell and maneuver should be unique. Wizard spells should do more damage than fighters because wizards need a trade off for having lower hit points. Fighter XD increases should be lowered.

D&D 5E (2014) What Wizards can do to make D&D Next successful.

I think it would be cool if WOTC focused on updating the classic adventures of 1e and open license other adventure designers to make new games.

I do. But perhaps my comment will start a conversation about traits and skills.

    D&D 5E (2014) If You Don't Have a Maneuver Ready..

Ah! Then each class with expertise dice should have a suggested default Maneuver that players can call out if they can't think of anything. Or the DM can just allow.

You are on the right track. Skills are very clear to me. I don't like the term 'Trait'.

    Expertise Dice

I did not mean for my XD complaints to imply that I reject it. I approve of multiple actions and a reaction. We are going to get some real swashbuckling out of this. My concern is if maneuvers should award a flat non-rolled bonus, a pool of dice, or just make it an additional action. XD as it is...

    D&D 5E (2014) My Current DND5 Ideas

Actually, I don't even know why I'm arguing against XD expertise dice. I still get the multiple actions I campaigned for. If designers want XD or extra actions, it doesn't matter. I can deal with either. Neither slows the game because of compound damage. Parry and Protect slow the game a bit but...

D&D 5E (2014) Expertise Dice - some problems and some solutions

I agree with your comments about XD, but I don't agree with your point buy system, that makes it as difficult to track as damage conditions in 4th edition. I have a simple solution. Give every class extra actions and reactions in order to emulate maneuvers and keep the damage constant. 3d10 at...

    D&D 5E (2014) My Current DND5 Ideas

I'm not convinced. If multiple actions per turn are such a problem then why does almost every monster in 5th edition have Multi-Attack? Why do characters have reactions? Why do they have two weapon fighting? Why are there maneuvers? All of these things are extra actions per turn or out of turn.

    D&D 5E (2014) My Current DND5 Ideas

You have some good comments there. But I disagree with the expertise dice comments. Play testing extra actions per turn and play testing expertise dice takes about the same amount of time. XD adds unneeded complexity to the game. Since both require the same amount of time, might as well just...
