Would eliminating almost all Opportunity Attacks speed combat up?

I wonder...if you eliminated opportunity attacks for the most part except for those that involved marked creatures, would combat speed up? You wouldn't have to worry about whether or not you moved such that you'd get an OppAttack, and it would reduce the amount of extra attacks (that usually...

Advanced essentials starting characters & magic items

Also, if you're using inherent bonuses, you don't need to worry about your items becoming obsolete. Even then, you can always upgrade your items as well.

Advanced essentials starting characters & magic items

I'm inclined to say 3 commons only. The reason being that if you could pick 3 uncommons you can fairly easily start picking items that combo very well with your character's powers, to the point that new PCs could get more powerful than PCs that have been playing since 1st.

    And in 2011...

Do we really need more classes? Actually, I'm starting to wonder about the need for new crunch, period. Feats? Heck no. Classes? Not really. Now that we've gotten the Psionic classes, we don't really need more. We need more domains for Clerics and schools for Wizards. I wouldn't mind...

Question about Death saving throws after combat

Actually, Beholders aren't all that nasty. The problem is that their powers don't do enough damage (certainly lower than the MM3 numbers, even with the new MV stats). The second is that Beholders cannot focus fire. They only get two attacks on their turn, and they have to be on the same...

5E - How would you structure it?

Exactly. Given the development of the digital tools and the massive database, there isn't any way that they're going to risk that I think. Any '5th' edition is going to be fiddling around the edges...more like 1e to 2e as opposed to 3e to 4e.

    DDI Updates in December

They probably had too much to do with the Dark Sun CC plus Monster Vault. This way, newbie dms could at least use the MV monsters in DDI.

The Slow Death of Epic Tier

I think that's actually what the MV: Threats of Nentir Vale book is going to be about. It's not an encyclopedia of monsters, but of groups of monsters (eg a Dragon and his minions). However, they're probably still going to be focusing more on Heroic/Paragon tier stuff.

The Value of my DDI Subscription

I'll add my anecdote as well. Last night, two out of the three players who have DDI accounts, _purely_ for the Character Builder are cancelling. One specifically because he can't export his character for use in iPlay4e. I've been running a 3-month subscription since launch (yes, stupid, but...

The Slow Death of Epic Tier

For Eberron, theoretically there are the Lords of Dust, the Dragons of Argonnessen and the Daelkyr. But with the Daelkyr, the main abberations all end around Level 20.

This is something I was just thinking about this afternoon. Epic to me would be more digestible if it wasn't so long.

The Slow Death of Epic Tier

In my first campaign I was actually doubling XP to speed up levelling but we found that it wasn't very good. First, it didn't give the players much time to get used to their powers. Second, the magic items were given out twice as fast as well, which was a pain.

The Slow Death of Epic Tier

I sometimes wonder if it's not the complexity of the characters, but the magic items that are causing the problem. However, I think the changes to the magic items will speed things up. First, the DM can control what types of items go out (and more of them will be common, which are more...

A few questions about the DM's Kit

    1. How much overlap is there in regards to the rules between the DM's Kit book and the Rules Compendium? 2. Does the DM's Kit have the 'improvisation' suggestions for Skills like the Rules Compendium does? 3. Are the Rare magic items in the DM's kit just the same as what has already been...
