    action point in pvp?

I had a Paladin that insisted on sparring with members of the party, especially when someone new joined. I found that damage is high enough and HP's low enough that the initiative roll could often determine the entire battle. Also, as a Paladin I was often at a distinct advantage. Although...

What's the best guide to good hybrid choices?

I think it just takes a greater degree of system mastery to make it work for you. For example, I brought in a Fighter|Warlord, and it *could* have been well built, but I didn't do a great job of it. He was not sticky at all, and was half the healer/buffer that a Warlord can be. Another player...

When you kill your monsters do you kill the boss one last?

So we just had a big fight last night with a clearly defined leader. Early on we focused on the most threatening. . .threat. Kinda. An ogre was nose to nose with our swordmage, and much of our attack strength was bent towards killing him, but there were two other ogres, and wolves, and spirit...

    Gnome Assassin Strategy Help

I'm currently playing a stealthy Assassin (Kobold), and yeah, your ideas are all solid. I took the feat to allow Shade Form as an Immediate Interrupt, and I have used it in every combat so far. Halving damage from the attack incoming, plus allowing a Hide check with only concealment means that...

    Mapping questions

Maybe this goes without saying, but skill challenges can create this problem to. If they fail a skill challenge, they should not fail at D&D. Jay

When you kill your monsters do you kill the boss one last?

Wow. . .our party usually runs around attacking whatever is convenient, not always focusing fire or even *knowing* which one the boss is. Usually the enemy doesn't play fair with lining up in a phalanx with the boss standing behind. More often they are scattered throughout, and we spend the...

    What Classes are Missing?

I want a Necromancer too. I'm sure that he won't be at all what I imagine, but I remain cautiously optimistic. It seems like some of the Necromancer got stolen by the wizard (Grasp of the Grave?!) and ths Shaman could work, suitably reflavored, as a base Necromancer. It is a class that comes...

How much damage does lava do?

I agree, and I would never have an encounter take place around *actual* lava at low level for that reason. I don't want to kill/melt my friends and ruin part of their evening. It might be a lake of supernatural fire (that does damage based on magic, not science!) or a tiger pit. . .or icy...

Do creatures/players always know consequences of their actions?

Yeah. . .and now this page will end up on the internet forever, so if anyone else has this question and googles it, your thread is likely to turn up. That's why even if I later found I have asked a stuuupid question, I leave it. I'd like to spare anyone else the embarrassment! Jay

    What Classes are Missing?

I've thought about this a little bit. I think with the power structure, you could build a character to work with or without his mount. Just have powers that work while mounted, and powers that don't. Similar to how the Druid has some that work while shapechanged. The difference is, in an...

    This mentality needs to die

Oh God, so now. . .my game is stupid because the names in it are stupid? Wow, have you seen this guy's articles where he highlights all the dumb creatures D&D has seen? Your edition war trolling is not impressive. Go start a thread about how 4e=wow, *that* has more merit than this arguement...

    Secondary Targets

I'd not make him do so, based only on the fact that the faq for the chaos sorcerer's Chaos Bolt specifies that he does not have to attack his allies if he wishes. Jay

    Why all the ritual hate?

Object Reading (I think). The DM described the events, and then the Ranger asked the Wizard how he did it. His reply was the awesome time/space answer I posted. I wasn't really looking to start an argument, or segue this into a "Rituals suck because 4e sucks" thing. I do think that some...

Does the swordmage marking power suck?

If I interrupt you while you are talking, are you not free to finish your sentence after I finish speaking? Same thing. The fighter sees the enemy move towards his ally. Hit or miss, the enemy is not hindered in any way when he makes his attack (barring feats). Jay

    General consensus on expertise feats

Yeah, I liked the suggestion that feats be seperated into flavor (+1 with fire attacks, CA with certain weapons) and function (+1 with all attacks, +2 damage with all attacks). It is hard to justify taking a feat that is *cool*, when you should be taking the one that lets you hit a little more...

    Why all the ritual hate?

Uh, point taken Kamikaze Midget? It'd be nice if you contributed something though, since calling out my specific examples doesn't really touch on the point of the discussion... The Knock ritual is a good example of a ritual I would not take. If you have someone that can open locks, don't waste...

    This mentality needs to die

Good point, and needed to be said! "No, but" is just as good as "Yes, and" in most cases. Riffing off of each other's cool ideas, including the DM, is what gives me that tingly buzz when a game is going well. Jay

    Why all the ritual hate?

I've seen this sentiment expressed kind of a lot here in the Main forum, and a bit in the 4e rules forum. Rituals Suck. I don't really follow. I do see that the time factor limits usage, but the other complaints I'd need some convincing on: 1 - They cost too much. 2 - They are bland...
