    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock/Cleric Best of all Worlds

Heavy Armor. Shield. Martial weapons. Healing. Fireball. Invisible familiar. For the player who wants it all: the Warlock/Cleric. One of the major features of the Warlock is that it gets all spell slots back after a short rest, and those slots are maximum potency. The downside is that it only...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are henchmen/troupe-play viable in 5E?

I enjoy that style of play. We called it "expedition" play rather than troupe play. It was a holdover from Keep on the Borderlands, where each sortie to the Caves of Chaos left the keep with 20 or so hirelings, and came back with 4-5 survivors. Rich survivors. This was with OD&D in the 1980s...

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L November 4th Warlock Design

If only that were true. I really dislike how they kept clerics the same: cast like wizards, fight like fighters, with bonus divine powers. And absolutely zero mechanical obligations to care about their supposed god's goals, tenets, or commandments. It's easy to represent reliance on a higher...

    D&D 5E (2014) I just don't buy the reasoning behind "damage on a miss".

I like damage on miss. These are heroes; when they try to kill a target, that target suffers. Maybe it's a bruise. Maybe the target is shoved into an obstacle or forced off balance. Maybe the ferocity of the attack lowers morale. Consider it melee "suppressive fire." Whatever. Doesn't matter...

D&D 5E (2014) Halloween characters: the Druid is a vampire

Almost forgot the retainers from Noble background. Yuri, the butler. Half orc. Advantage on Intimidation keeps the riffraff from the mansion's door, and a strong back is always useful. Alexei, the valet. High Elf. Prestidigitation helps him clean the Count's clothes and mansion, and light (or...

D&D 5E (2014) Halloween characters: the Druid is a vampire

I'm playing in WotC's charity D&D game on November 2nd. When I signed up I hadn't really given much thought to a character; I figured I'd play my "usual", which is some form of swashbuckling rogue/fighter. But then I realized the game is two days after Halloween. And I read the new Wildshape...

I don't suppose that Journal version is on the way?

    D&D 5E (2014) Exploration pace--am I reading this wrong?

Oh thank god. Mistwell called it: I interpreted the reference to Constitution as modifier, not score. Hmmm... I wonder if the rules utilize raw score anywhere else? Or is this use unique to Exploration? Thanks, all. The Exploration rules make way more sense now.

    D&D 5E (2014) Exploration pace--am I reading this wrong?

The rules for exploration say that you can travel a certain distance per hour depending on pace, ranging from 1 mile (slow pace) to 3 miles (fast pace). That distance is halved in difficult terrain, such as forest or swamp. A creature can travel a number of hours each day equal to his Con bonus...

    Character Sheet Feedback

I've got a font suggestion: "Daniel" or "Note This", from here http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/40-free-high-quality-hand-drawn-fonts/

    Character Sheet Feedback

One other bit of feedback: The sheet needs more room for Class features. Particularly once Paths and multiclassing are taken into account. Suggest trimming from Equipment & Treasure.

Is it possible to set the Form Fillable pdf to allow the user to choose font? Or offer a couple versions of form-fillable sheets, with an array of fonts?

    Legends & Lore: Clas Groups

I don't really see why "who qualifies for magic items" is a driving force behind game design choice/class groupings. Want to limit a Staff of Power to just Mages and Priests? Have its power be an increase in caster level, or an extra spell slot at the highest spell level the wielder can cast...

    D&D 5E (2014) Trickster/Expert/Adventurer/Rogue

From the other thread, I broke down the classification thusly: Warrior: applies self to others. Internal power. Hits things. Lots of direct damage abilities. Trickster: applies others to self. External opportunity. Takes advantage of things. Lots of reaction abilities, or setup abilities...

    Legends & Lore: Clas Groups

Another thought: it makes sense to classify based on how the class interacts with the world. Warrior: applies self to others. Internal power. Hits things. Lots of direct damage abilities. Trickster: applies others to self. External opportunity. Takes advantage of things. Lots of reaction...

    Legends & Lore: Clas Groups

I agree with those who've observed that it's a bit late in the process to be talking about such a fundamental re-org. But they are talking about it, so: It makes sense, to me, to group classes. It allows for some functional differentiation. A melee Warrior should be fundamentally different from...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Q&A: 09/27/2013

Good points, particularly about the story's blandness. Giving humans the same treatment as every other class--a mix of ability modifiers and special abilities--is certainly a viable way to go. Out of Klaus's list, I like the free feat the best. Single-use abilities and saving-throw-based...

I acknowledge your position. For me, the story must be supported by mechanics.

    D&D 5E (2014) Druids and shape changing – I don't like it!!

Have you read the description of the Druid's Hound shape? "With the shape of the hound, you assume the appearance of a canine you are familiar with—such as a wolf, a coyote, or a bloodhound—or a similar predator." There's your lynx or wildcat. Or whatever medium sized, non-flying...
