    Wulf Ratbane's DARK HERESY

Okay, this story hour rules but I admit I have only a casual understanding of the WH40k universe. So: what's up with the psyker?

New classics from Sep, Piratecat, (contact), Sagiro?

I've been away from this sub-forum for a while now, and checking back on a whim I was delighted to see new work from Wulf and JollyDoc. But is there any new content from the acclaimed authors in this thread's title? Or, does anyone have a link to the compilations of the above? I know...

Help me tweak my 1,000 year cataclysm

I'm a fan of twists, so I think you should have the PCs set up as the big heroes who are charged with preventing this big tragedy. They fight for 20 levels in figuring out the movers and shakers and fight their way to the end, only to discover that there was a very good reason for the 1,000 year...

How much face-to-face 4e have you played so far?

Right now I'm in seven campaigns. Yikes! Yeah, I'm pretty much addicted to 4E. My current stable: Miltiades, the minotaur. That's right, the minotaur. He's a warlock/divine oracle in a very heroic campaign based on the ancient Greeks' mythology...

Warlocks/Wizards at Attack Disadvantage due to no "proficiency" bonus?

Just to clarify, it's two chances to add Quarry damage ONCE. You only get to add quarry damage 1/round. So even if both attacks hit, you only add quarry damage to one of the attacks.

    Proud Nails?

TWF rangers should dump Dex and go heavy armor, unless they plan on going the scimitar route. Here's a build: http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?t=227936&page=1&pp=15 Str, Wis, and Con are much more important than Dex. And Hammer Rhythm + High con will keep your DPR up even if you...

    D&D 4E Advice on running a 4e game for a single player

Make liberal use of minions (placed under the player's control). They're a lot of fun, and make for suspenseful gaming. As a model, look to the recent Beowulf movie, or Odysseus, or Robin Hood. The PC is the big hero, the minions are his warrior buddies. At the start of the game your hero and...

    Getting gritty with 4e

My group implemented a "wounded" system. 4E's concept of Bloodied makes it easy. Here's how it works. All the below rules take place after combat is over--we didn't want to implement a death spiral. It's assumed that during the combat you fight through the pain. 1. If you were bloodied in...

    Retainers, henchmen, hirelings and redshirts?

minions Minions are the answer. They can be astonishingly compelling. My DM charged us with defending a bunker. Our in-game liege assigned us 10 soldiers to help with the defense. We organized our guys at various defensive positions, and soon enough on come the hobgoblins. I gotta say, it was...

    Off-hand weapons. Meaningless?

Hahaha, good one! Terrific troll impression, man. Three stars! There are plenty of good uses of TWF. It's a good damage buff that stacks with Weapon Focus, it unlocks TWD (which gives the benefit of light shield without the Str 13 requirement), and with a thrown weapon, it keeps your options...

    Off-hand weapons. Meaningless?

PHB p 215 "Some one-handed weapons are light enough for you to use in your off hand while holding another one-handed weapon in your other hand." Since sword and javelin are one-handed weapons, you can't fight effectively if you're holding both of them. The rules are unclear on what that means...

New Rogue Build found in Compendium - Ruthless Thug

I see your point, but I'm with Tony on this one. Ruthless Scoundrel and Brutal Thug just work better.

    Sell me on Half-Elves

Half elves sort of have a free multiclass. This can be useful or not, depending on build. For example, the secondary attribute for warlocks is Int. A Half-elf warlock can pick Scorching Burst what for to get a little AOE, Thunder Wave for crowd control, or Cloud of Daggers for a guaranteed...

    Cure Light Wounds: Nearly Useless?

Aha, I didn't see that. I saw a similar note about monsters in the MM, but didn't see that bit about NPCs in the PHB. Thanks! Hmm, in that case I think Divine Aid or Sanctuary are superior. Divine Aid can help throw off a damaging ongoing effect before it has a chance to kick; effectively...

    Commander’s Strike

I'm sure a future book will have a similar power that works with ranged attacks. Or a higher level power that works with either.

    Melee: No way out?

Let's look at the rules: From the Compendium, Opportunity Attack: "Moving Provokes: If an enemy leaves a square adjacent to you, you can make an opportunity attack against that enemy. However, you can’t make one if the enemy shifts or teleports or is forced to move away by a pull, a push, or a...

    The Compendium is Live

Right; it's not "the complete PHB in digital form." :) But it *is* handy. It's even being used to settle message board rules discussions, which is great. For example, look at Vayden's post in this thread: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=232850&page=3

    Cure Light Wounds: Nearly Useless?

Cure Light Wounds is great because you can use it to heal NPCs. Healing Word won't work on most NPCs since most NPCs don't have any surges to spend. :)

    Commander’s Strike

Hooray for rules quotes! That clearly settles things. The target has to be within melee range of the warlord, and since the ally is making the melee basic attack, the warlord's weapon proficiency and other enhancements don't apply. Tactical warlord is all sorts of fun. You can even get by with...

    The Compendium is Live

This compendium is still useful for character prototyping. If you're working on an OA-focused build, you can search for Opportunity Attack and quickly get a glance at everything relevant, including powers. That's pretty dang useful.
