Do you play more for the story or the combat?

Without a doubt my group and I are playing for the story. My current game is taking the "Get a lvl when the DM says so approach" just to de-emphasize the importance of combat. (Although combat can serve to advance the story since every heroic tale needs conflict)

Where to take the party next?

The title is pretty much the question for this post, but before we get to that some setup is needed. In my 4E game, my players are passengers on a multiverse traveling train which is basically a rolling metropolis. Due to a rotating cast of player each game session is meant, with the exception...

Avoiding Railroading - Forked Thread: Do you play more for the story or the combat?

In no way do I think that I am a really great DM, but what I usually do to avoid railroading is try and come up with three or four different threads that the players could possible use to become involved with whatever my story is. Usually once they are involved it becomes really difficult to...

    WotC Summer 2009 Catalog

I just wanted to add that I love when these threads pop up, since it lets me know how WotC will be making me part with my money in the future..... especially if Revenge of the Giants stays the box set with monster tokens.

Kindle or e-reader work for 4e pdfs?

The Kindle can indeed support PDFs as well as the sony reader. But as has been mentioned earlier neither does color (the generation 2 Kindle will). The only thing you cannot do with a PDF on any reader is resize the font. Hope this helps.

PHB II class roster all but confirmed?

I never played one, but from what I remember it was a sub-par fighter with d12 hd. You had a designated target of your vengence, and got bonuses when fighting enemies connected to that target. Gonna have to see if I can dig up some more info

Hmm if it is just 5 books 1. Mutants and Masterminds 2nd ed 2. Savage Worlds 3. 7th Sea Players guide 4. Star Wars Saga Ed. 5. 7th Sea Game Masters Guide If it was five games, just swap out the 7th sea GM's guide for 4th ed D&D

Tell me about the Communist dwarves from the Chainmail setting

Considering one of the things I remember from having to read the communist manifesto in college was that the Work should be the reward. I could definitely see the craftsmen dwarf archetype being given a communist leaning.

Forked Thread: The Best OGL Systems

QFT. M&M is the best thing to come out of the OGL 3.x era in my opinion. There was a good stretch of time when it was the only thing my group wanted to touch.

Whats going on in your game ?

Just finished the first session of our new game where the party has gotten tickets for a multiverse crossing mega train which will serve as the hub for the rest of the campaign. Securing the tickets wasn't an easy process since it involved dealing with murderous twin halflings, the rantings of...

    Tell me about Savage Worlds

And if you use the Deadlands setting it is almost already in there for you (gotta love the Maze Pirates  )

Does your party have a cook?

A player in my new 4e game just decided last night he wanted to be an ex-cook and will use a Mordencrag as his weapon(since it was his meat tenderizer) There was also a 7th Sea game I ran where one of the players was the ships cook who would only take combat skills if they related to cooking in...

    Barbarian Playtest Poll

Definitely think he will be a Primal defender with a big dose of striker. I see him having many abilities that get a kicker once he is bloodied, and his mark allowing him to do something like charge whoever dared ignore him.

    Published retro futuristic rpgs

The Savage Worlds retro sci-fi setting Slip Stream was just released. I haven't seen it myself but I do know it is supposed to be heavily inspired by old pulp serials, like Flash Gordon. May be worth checking out.

    On Marking ("Why you little . . . ")

The thing is Hunter's Quarry isn't meant to be a mark. It is the 4e equivalent to the favored enemy of old. The ranger isn't calling the guy out in any way. He is just focusing his attention on him. The only reason an enemy has to attack a ranger who is using the quarry is the bonus damage the...

Hadron Goblin Supercollider I found this thread, "Hadron Goblin Supercollider", interesting and have nominated it accordingly for Topic Of The Week 38, September, 2008.

    4e Ravenloft - Dragon 368

The fact that the quote in the OP refers to the "Domains of Dread" and not just the Castle Ravenloft gives me hope that the demiplane will be existing in a more traditional way that some of you fear. I don't see how anyone could find it beneficial to just drop Barovia into the Prime of the PoL...

The swordmage will also be getting some support in the arcane handbook if I'm not mistaken.
