Kindle or e-reader work for 4e pdfs?

Does the Kindle or the E-reader work for reading the RPGNow pdfs?

I'm thinking it might be nice to be able to sit in bed or on the bus and read my manuals, but I don't want to buy one if it doesn't work because that's really the only thing I want to use it for.

Kindle uses a proprietary file format that requires us to have an agreement with Amazon to have distribution on, so the answer is no.

I think this is the same for Sony's E-reader.

Neither platform can handle color or images

Is there anything out there that will read pdfs?
iphone, blackberry, etc?

Netbook is an option I guess.
Any other thoughts?

Don't quote me on this...but I think a PSP can view PDFs. I don't recall all the browser add-ons so double check first.

Yes, but only if you have net access or it's in your downloaded email. Then the email pdf viewer is not the same as the web based one. I love the web based pdf viewer but I would VERY much like to put PDF's on my iphone.

kindle is great for ebook reading but the PDF convertion is pretty poor for specially formatted books (most rpg books)

i'm typing this on an acer one 8.9" mini notebook. windows xp for the o/s and it is a great pdf reader. probably better then my 22" lcd as the size seems more natural. runs about $350 or so on amazon.

nokia also has a net device that is very compact and linux based... its a web tablet of sorts, it is a decent pdf reader, pages are very readable even with the small screen, but each page seems to take forever to load.

The Kindle can indeed support PDFs as well as the sony reader. But as has been mentioned earlier neither does color (the generation 2 Kindle will). The only thing you cannot do with a PDF on any reader is resize the font. Hope this helps.

the kindle needs to convert pdfs before they can be viewed. the conversion destroys any chart based book (been there, tried that). doesn't make it a bad product, i love mine. it does make it a poor choice to read rpg books with.

Scott, just to let you know... if you ever made a DDI app for the iPhone (so that I can bring up DDI stuff mid-session), I would name my first child after you. Then I would sacrifice a goat in your honor. And then a circle of twenty nude vestal virgins would dance around a giant stone idol of you and sing your praises and douse each other in English ale.

Just thought you should know that.

EDIT: I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that eBook was an open specification, and both Kindle and Sony's reader support it?

EDIT EDIT: The D&D Compendium web app fits perfectly on my iPhone via Safari, and the entire stat block is clear as crystal. Unfortunately, it takes me several minutes to navigate the menus to get to the web app.
