The Dense Smoke sidebar is literally just a reprint of the Dense Smoke encounter element (which the Walking Volcano feature creates) for convenience (the same text can be found on page 49 of Trials and Treasure). But yes, the smoke does impede breathing as well as sight.

You will probably see this again, but it will only appear when one of the classes is a "preparation" caster rather than a "known" one; so cleric, druid, maybe herald, and possibly wizard with additional restrictions in place. It's also likely to always be reserved for the third feat.

The reason for this working the way it does are as follows: Druids, by default, always get full access to their class's entire spell list, so it's not inflating the power of the druid class. You also have to pick and choose with a limited number of choices, which means that you have to balance...

Basically if a spell appears on both the bard and druid lists, and you have a spell slot of the appropriate level, you can prepare it as a druid spell. You're still limited by your usual cap on the number of druid spells prepared, and it has no effect on learning new bard spells. . For example...

The current maintenance message makes it look like the site collapsed under heavy traffic. If so, that is actually a very good thing, as it means the number of users has increased to the point where they need some more bandwidth!
