    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Even non-adversary NPCs can have traits you can spend fear on, if I recall that section of the book correctly. More importantly, remember that you can make a move instead of taking a fear. If the PCs roll with fear while interacting with NPCs, have bad stuff happen right then and there.

D&D General Ben Riggs interviews Fred Hicks and Cam Banks, then shares WotC sales data.

If we are talking preferences, the worse 2024 does, the better, becasue then maybe we will get an actual new edition. But I don't have any way of knowing whether 2024 is doing well or not. I am running it and don't care for it, but am also burnt out on 5E broadly. I am enjoying Daggerheart, but...

D&D General Ben Riggs interviews Fred Hicks and Cam Banks, then shares WotC sales data.

This style of argument rings more adn more hollow every time I hear it. The logic seems to be that people who are into D&D don't know about anything beyond the core books, but that runs counter to the narrative that people discovered D&D because of word of mouth, marketing, Critical Role and...

2024 D&D Core Rulebooks Off to "Strongest-Ever" Start for D&D Books

Do we have any idea how good the penetration is? As in, how many 2014 players have adopted 2024?

D&D General Ben Riggs interviews Fred Hicks and Cam Banks, then shares WotC sales data.

This is an interesting factoid, but hardly surprising considering how many player D&D 2014 added to the pool, and kind of beside the point. I mean, I understand that EVERY thread even slightly smelling of sales data must immediately become a battleground between people that believe it is a...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I just watched the Character Sheet video on this and it seems kind of like a... nothing burger? Nothing has been announced. There's just a vague sense of mending fences.

Geek Confessional Thread 2024 [NOW 2025!]

My wife and I decided to watch Jurassic Park Rebirth last night and good gawds above and below, that was the worst movie I have seen in a decade and NOT in a fun way. Just insipid. DON'T.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Some general thoughts: 5th level DH characters can definitely pass for superheroes in a setting where they (and their villains) are the only powerful entities. A lot of it is imply embracing tropes, of course, but the ease with which some PCs can fly and how we can use Hope and Fear to steer...

D&D General Ben Riggs interviews Fred Hicks and Cam Banks, then shares WotC sales data.

I think the most interesting bit is how most of that growth is in the actual game as opposed to also with all the side stuff. I wonder if that is what fueled the discussions about monetization of the brand. But if that were the case, why was there never a real push to get the novel market back...

D&D General Ben Riggs interviews Fred Hicks and Cam Banks, then shares WotC sales data.

It feels weird that in less than 10 posts this thread turned into a defense of 2024 D&D, instead of discussing the ramp in popularity (and profit) of 2014 D&D and the things that might have influenced that.

    I made a terrible life decision…

When i moved I divested myself of 95% of my collection, giving it to a friend who is a convention organizer and sold some bits and gave away others as game prizes. I similarly gave away my comic collection a friend who is a teacher at a private school to go to the library.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I am just back from the con, having run four 4-hour DH slots with 5 or 6 players per slot. I am exhausted so I will have to go into detail tomorrow, but if anyone has questions, feel free to ask before I do my write up. The Long Story Short: the PCs were superheroes (secret IDs and all) in a...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE Dragonlance. And if I was 12 again, I imagine I would be ecstatic for a show. But DL does not really stand up to an even cursory critical examination.

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I continue to be shocked that there is not a Drizzt (or however you spell it) show. I also continue to be sad that there is not a Arcane level quality Eberron animated series.

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Has a book audience ever been happy with changes?

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I meant in general. WoT is probably the biggest non-Tolkien fantasy ever (maybe Stormlight has surpassed in in sales?) and still could not hold an audience. I think GoT was an anomaly and DL would legit bomb no matter how good the production was because the story just isn't very good.

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I don't know. If Wheel of Time could not make it work, I have serious doubts about DL.
