    Level Up character sheet 9

Revision of the Level Up character sheet, but with a full page for Features & Traits, and Maneuvers and Knacks moved to their own page.

Homebrew Level Up Official Character Sheet (Color)

One more bug in the original: The very first field in Features and Traits has the font set to size 12, instead of auto, so it won't auto-size the font and instead just scroll off into hidden territory. Anyway, two more revisions along in reconstructing the character sheet. Instead of just...

Homebrew Level Up Official Character Sheet (Color)

So, I managed to find a fix for my issue with space (mostly). I created a new version of the PDF with the features page duplicated. This actually took more work than expected in order to keep most of the content from mirroring each other (like the way the character name mirrors itself across...

Level Up (A5E) Do bonuses to carry capacity stack?

Came across a similar question today. Does the Orc's Heavy Lifter trait become obsolete if he's a 20th level Berserker? The Berserker at 20th level increases his actual size by one step when raging, so the orc would increase from medium to large. (I guess this would also apply with the Enlarge...

Level Up (A5E) Barbarian: Enhanced Vitality is....pretty bad.

The reprint has changed Enhanced Vitality, but now rather than merely pretty bad, it seems almost entirely worthless. Now, using Con to make saves against what would normally require a mental stat save would be a huge boon for the Berserker, who is likely to have dumped at least one mental...

Homebrew Level Up Official Character Sheet (Color)

On the 4th line of Combat Maneuvers, the page number cell is left-aligned instead of centered like the rest of the rows. Also, I didn't see any place to put the character's Prestige value.

Homebrew Level Up Official Character Sheet (Color)

So, I'm getting around to trying out using the provided character sheet to convert a character from another campaign (level 14 barbarian), as an illustration for our GM about how a rebuild might work. I'm currently up to level 9 in the process, and I am already out of space in the Features &...

    D&D General Inherently Evil?

Warning: Long. Morality is a rules structure used to maximize the survivability and sustainability of a social entity (eg: a family), while minimizing the energy expenditure (in terms of analyzing a social conflict and determining a proper action, keyed off of all possible rules the creature...

    D&D 5E (2014) Game theory, D&D, and infinite games

A game has rules of play. That's what makes it a game. A win condition is an optional rule that defines when the game is over, but is in no way a requirement in order for an activity to be a game. Baseball is a game. One side throws a ball, and tries to keep runners from making it around the...

Official News Level Up Class Preview: Ranger

Really nice. It uses a lot of ideas that have been suggested or used in other ranger re-write attempts, with a little extra polish. Almost seems like too much stuff, but I realize some of that is multiple choice options, so it's not actually that large for any given ranger. Only thing that...

D&D 5E (2014) Why are non-caster Ranger themes so popular?

My perspective is that rangers are very good tool users. Those tools would include traps, wilderness crafting (herbalism, alchemy, etc), animal companions, and spellcasting. I would also see their subclasses as them specializing in one particular form of tool. So, Trapmaster, Beastmaster...

D&D 5E (2014) Why are non-caster Ranger themes so popular?

Yep. Army rangers: Marksmanship = Archery, one of the common weapon choices for a ranger Physical Training = Athletics, climbing, swimming Medical Training = Some means of healing. Unfortunately D&D has a strong leaning towards magical healing, so this becomes a notable source of conflict for...

Level Up (A5E) It's Here! It's Time To LEVEL UP Your 5E Game!

£200k in about 24 hours (approx 23.5 hours, by my estimate), so rule of thumb suggests it will hit about £600k ($816k)? It would need some strong legs or unexpected bit of promotion to keep going to $1 million (£736k). It seems theoretically possible, but also somewhat unlikely. I'll at least...

D&D 5E (2014) Why are non-caster Ranger themes so popular?

My current thought on Yet Another Ranger Rebuild is to make an animal companion part of the base class, but make it entirely non-combat. It won't fight for you or with you, enemies won't attack it, and the few things that can hurt it just leave it as "injured", with no concern whatsoever about...

D&D 5E (2014) Why are non-caster Ranger themes so popular?

The one I worked on is here. There is a lot of discussion on whether ranger even deserves to be a full class, and if it does, what it's supposed to actually be. We ended up with something fairly decent, but if I started again (as this thread has motivated me to do), I'd take a slightly different...

D&D 5E (2014) The Philosophy Behind Randomized and Standardized Ability Scores

Another variant that I've pondered: Take the top three stats from the standard array — 15, 14, 13. You can place those stats where you want. Then roll three times (probably 3d6, but maybe 4d6k3), and place those stats in order on the remaining attributes. That lets you guarantee competence in...

D&D 5E (2014) Why are non-caster Ranger themes so popular?

Yeah, I helped with a ranger re-write over on the GITP forums, and that was the basic structure we ended up with (but 'Hunter' rather than 'Archer'). Put spellcasting in its own subclass, and that opens up a lot of design space for the main job.
